| Native New Yorker Music Review Average Rating: (3.8 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Must Have For Any Disco Collection As a teen in the 70's, I loved Disco, & Odyssey was very popular with their mega-hit, Native New Yorker. I had forgotten some of these other songs, & was quite pleased that they are included. The only issue is that the sound quality isn't very good. Native New Yorker The title song led me to cd universe. I had always like that song and had been unable to locate it. Although the intro is a little long, the lyrics are classic. I was surprise that they made Inside Out, and Don't Tell Me, two songs I vaguely remember from my party days. A solid 4 song cd, but Native New Yorker is the star, while the other songs sing backup. It's just OK This CD was a disappointment for me, mostly because of the poor sound quality. It is nice to have the 12" mixes of Native New Yorker and Inside Out, but the other tracks are just so so. Much better sounding mixes can be found on the Big 12" series from RCA. Submitted by JSP54 (Cincinnati, Ohio) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
I'm A Native New Yorker! I have looked forward to hearing Odyssey's "Native New Yorker" for a very long time and the CD lives up to everything I expected, especially all of the 12" versions with "Native New Yorker" in mind. I was born in Brooklyn and raised in Queens. I am proud to be a native New Yorker and whenever I listen to the CD, I always remember where I come from. I recommend this CD to everyone, even people who are not from New York City. Submitted by hmaldonado2003 (Jamaica, Queens NY) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Purchase Native New Yorker CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Donna Summer Once Upon A Time CD (1977)
Native New Yorker album
$6.39 Although disco is primarily thought of as a singles-based music, Donna Summer and her primary collaborators, Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte, indulged in some fairly ambitious concept albums that belie that simplistic assertion. ONCE UPON A TIME is one of their most wide-ranging efforts, a double-album modern-day fairy tale that truly only makes sense ...
| | Best Of The Ritchie Family: Best Disco In Town CD (1995)
Native New Yorker CD music
$12.95 This generous and extensive compilation covers the career of the Ritchie Family, a trio of female vocalists who were produced by Jacques Morali and Henri Belolo (best-known for the hits they crafted for the Village People). Their sound basically worked Three Degrees-style harmonized girl group vocals into an instrumental backdrop that balanced Euro-disco slickness with aggressive pop hooks. Like many disco groups, they did a lot of medleys, the most successful being "The Best Disco in Town," a song that contrasts a frothy wraparound dance tune with a medley midsection that includes snippets of songs like "I'll Be There" and "I Love Music." Other notable covers include "Brazil," which brought this pre-rock standard into the disco era with aggressive horns and a stomping dance beat, and "Arabian Nights Medley," which cleverly transformed old tunes like "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" and "Lawrence of Arabia" into an exotica-inspired disco symphony. In terms of originals, standout selections include "American Generation," which works burbling synthesizers into their party-hearty disco sound, and "Put Your Feet to the Beat," a call to dancefloor action that contrasts a churning beat with a sleek, dreamy string ...
| | Best Of My Love: The Best Of The Emotions CD (1996)
Native New Yorker music CDs
$6.25 This 16-track, 69-minute disc surveys the Emotions' five-year, five-album stay on Columbia Records (and the custom label ARC), which was the group's most successful period, featuring the gold number one hit "Best of My Love" and the gold Top Ten hit "Boogie Wonderland" (on which the Emotions backed their mentors, Earth, Wind & Fire), both of which are heard here, along with four other songs that saw action on the pop charts. Surprisingly, the Emotions' five singles that only made the R&B charts are excluded in favor of album tracks. Unlike their earlier period at Stax, at Columbia the Emotions were essentially an adjunct to EW&F and its leader, Maurice White, and since EW&F featured tenor and falsetto vocals, the similarity was often heightened, especially on "Boogie Wonderland." Nevertheless, the sisters sang well over the horns and disco rhythms that characterized the pop/R&B music of the period. ~ William Ruhlmann
This is part of Legacy's Rhythm & Soul series.
Additional personnel includes: Earth, Wind & Fire.

| | Quincy Jones Dude CD (1981)
Native New Yorker songs
$8.49 An enormous commercial success, 1981's THE DUDE is a cross-cultural success blending jazz, Latin music, soul ballads, and straight pop into an admittedly slick but never over-produced or soulless stew. The album opens with a surprise; "Ai No Corrida" is a synthesizer-driven yet still funky Latin dance track written by Chaz Jankel of Ian Dury and the Blockheads, suggesting that unlike a lot of musicians his age, Quincy Jones kept his ears open to new music.
The proto-rap title track accomplishes the same thing. The rest of the album is more conventional, with James Ingram and Patti Austin trading vocals on a smooth collection of tracks highlighted by the masterful love ballads "One Hundred Ways" and "Just Once," staples of adult-contemporary stations, and the haunting Stevie Wonder-penned instrumental "Velas." THE DUDE is an outstanding collection that was massively influential on the '80s R&B scene.
Recorded at Westlake Audio, Los Angeles, California.
Personnel: Quincy Jones (vocals, trumpet, background vocals); Tom Bahler (vocals, trumpet, background ...
| | Phil Collins Hits CD (1998)
Native New Yorker album
$14.65 East, Leland Sklar, Cornelius Mims, John Giblin, Freddie Washington (bass); Sheila E.(percussion); Peter Gabriel, Sting, Marva King (background vocals).
In the early '80s, Collins took a break from the helm of Genesis to inaugurate a solo career that abandoned his group's art-rock agenda for a mainstream pop approach. In the ensuing years, the king of Nice Guy Pop established himself as one of the world's premier top 40 balladeers, as evidenced by the wall-to-wall hits that make up the balance of this appropriately titled collection. HITS walks the listener through the smooth, well-produced Collins hits that have worked their way into the collective consciousness of radio listeners (even casual ones) over the years. There are majestic power ballads ("I Wish It Would Rain") to light-hearted, infectious pop-funk ("Sussudio") and moody atmospheric pieces ("In the Air Tonight") HITS represents the full range of material this prolific performer has turned out over the course of his wildly successful career.

| | Best Of Blue Magic CD (1974)
Native New Yorker CD music
$7.55 Blue Magic's sublime sophomore effort manages to retain the delicate beauty of their debut while summoning a more confident, robust approach to group harmony. The Magic of the Blue is above all a celebration of the human voice in all its myriad forms of expression. Whether transcending contrived ballads like "Three-Ring Circus" (a bland rewrite of the earlier hit "Sideshow") or soaring on the strength of up-tempo dance tunes like the excellent title cut, Blue Magic's harmonies are impeccable, showcased by arranger
In a perfect world, all of Blue Magic's '70s LPs would have been reissued on CD in the late '80s or '90s. But that didn't happen; when the 21st century arrived, most of the Philadelphia vocal group's '70s albums were out of print. However, various best-of packages were available on CD. The most comprehensive is The Best of Blue Magic: Soulful ...

During the 70's she worked on crews at fish canneries and then construction sites on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez. She lived in the Kotzebue Inuit native community in the Arctic near the Bearing Sea. When she got her pilots license she flew her "bush" plane on skis to remote areas.
