25 All-Time Greatest Hits CD (2001) Top Seller
You're the Reason: The Best of the MGM Years album for sale Recorded between 1958 and 1967. Includes liner notes by Brian Mansfield.
Digitally remastered by Evren Goknar & Marty Wesker (Capitol Mastering, Hollywood, California).
Varese Sarabande had already issued two Johnny Tillotson compilations, one (Poetry in Motion) covering his Cadence output and the other (The Very Best of Johnny Tillotson) his later MGM era, prior to the appearance of this anthology. It's the most comprehensive of the lot, spanning both Cadence and MGM from 1958 to 1967, and in fact including everything from Poetry in Motion, although lacking some songs from The Very Best of. The compilation does have some songs not on either Poetry in Motion or The Very Best of, though, among them the 1964 Top 40 hit "I'm a Worried Guy" and the surprising P.F. Sloan-penned 1967 pop/rock 45 "Cling to Me." Should you be mindful of keeping your shelf space to a minimum, 25 All-Time Greatest Hits is the best single-disc Tillotson collection to invest in, covering the country, pop, and teen idol rock facets of the versatile if unexciting singer on his 1950s and 1960s releases. ~ Richie Unterberger
Includes liner notes by Brian Mansfield.
Producers: Archie Bleyer, Paul Tannen.
Compilation producers: Cary E. Mansfield, Johnny & Nancy Tillotson, Steve Massie.

Golden Age of American Rock 'n' Roll, Vol. 5 CD (1995)
You're the Reason: The Best of the MGM Years songs It's been said before, but it bears repeating: much of the history (and soul) of early rock & roll resides not only in the recordings of giants like Elvis, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, and Buddy Holly, but in the literally hundreds of acts who managed to produce one or two great singles, in an incredible variety of styles. You can't claim to have a comprehensive rock & roll collection without seeking these out, and you'll have a surprising amount of fun doing so. The fifth volume of the Golden Age of American Rock'n'Roll series shows no signs of flagging in its mission to document these important sounds. Big hits by stars (Freddie Cannon, Jan & Dean, Gene Chandler); huge one-shot hits like Dale & Grace's "I'm Leaving It Up to You," and Johnnie & Joe's "Over the Mountain, Across the Sea," and Jimmy McCracklin's "The Walk"; treasured cult classics by the Showmen ("It Will Stand") and Eddie Fontaine ("Nothin' Shakin'," covered by the Beatles on Live at the BBC); all are here, and more. ~ Richie Unterberger
30 hot hits from 1954-1963, w. Gene Chandler, Jay & The Americans, Jan & Dean, Santo & Johnny, Freddy Cannon, The Belmonts, The Jayhawks+
Performers include: The Jayhawks.

All His Early Hits- And More!!!! CD (1990)
You're the Reason: The Best of the MGM Years buy CD music The ultimate single-disc collection of Johnny Tillotson's early years, All His Early Hits compiles 30 recordings from 1958-1963, including two takes of "Poetry in Motion." "Well I'm Your Man" from 1958 is perhaps Tillotson's most rocking side, but most of these recordings are light rock and pop. Tillotson was firmly in the teen idol camp and had the requisite adolescent-sounding voice, but his performances display more subtlety and expressiveness than is typical of the genre, particularly on his excellent version of Willie Nelson's "Funny How Time Slips Away." This set includes a number of pop covers of country hits ("Send Me the Pillow That You Dream On," "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry"), one silly teen novelty ("A Very Good Year for Girls"), and a few other cloying cuts seemingly written for 12 year olds, but ultimately the good outweighs the silly. Tillotson was one of the most talented of the teen idols and wrote some of his own material; his recording of his most famous composition "It Keeps Right on a-Hurtin'" is here as well. ~ Greg Adams

She Understands Me/That's My Style CD (1992)
You're the Reason: The Best of the MGM Years album for sale Two of Johnny Tillotson's MGM albums from the mid-'60s are collected on this import disc, and both feature the typical assortment of covers from a variety of fields, especially pop versions of country hits. Tillotson's take on "The Race Is On" is especially nice, although he ably tackles "Heartaches By the Numbers," "Oh, Lonesome Me," and "Busted," among others. Several songs here were written or co-written by Tillotson, the best being "Your Mem'ry Comes Along." Although Ace's You're the Reason best-of collection is the place to go for a definitive overview of Tillotson's MGM material, there isn't too much overlap between this two-fer and that anthology, which makes this a good addition for those who can't get enough Johnny Tillotson. ~ Greg Adams
