| | Let's Go Trippin' CD - Import
Thirty surf and hot rod tracks that were released on or distributed by the Dot label in the 1960s; a couple (the Surfaris' "Wipe Out" and the Chantays' "Pipeline") were huge hits, but most of the rest were virtually unknown. It's a grab bag of a set, with further tracks by the Surfaris (a rare 1966 single) and the Chantays, the minor national hit "Boss" by the Rumblers, a strange 1964 minor hit by Pat Boone that found him imitating the Beach Boys with reasonable accuracy ("Beach Girl"), and collector's items by the likes of Don Brandon and Milt Rogers. It's not bad, but the best tracks are available on better surf or single-artist compilations. On the whole it's average surf music, with occasional ear-openers like the Chantays' spooky "Space Probe" or the the Rancheros' darkly powerful "Linda's Tune." ~ Richie Unterberger
30 classic vocal & instrumental tracks from the surf & hot rod era including The Surfaris - Surfer Joe, Gary Usher & The Usherettes - Three Surfer Boys, Chantays - Move It, Rumblers - Boss, Milt Rogers - Let's Go Trippin', Beachcombers - Samoa, Rancheros
Performers include: Pat Boone, The Surfaris, The Chantays, Donn Brandon.

Let's Go Trippin' songs
$13.59 This 75-minute album, originally a double-LP (recorded live at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City on April 3, 1970) is a valiant attempt at capturing the Association's concert sound on record. Unfortunately, it fails for several reasons, beginning with the fact that the instrumental mix is very bass-heavy -- even with adjustments to compensate, this overwhelms much of the rest of the band on several key numbers. Additionally, the group's singing, though more than adequate, lacks the presence needed to give their harmonies the necessary radiance to make the music fully attractive, coming off instead as anemic. The real problem is that cutting a live album was a thankless task for this group -- so much of their sound ...

In a practically Spinal Tap-ian mythology, ...
