Fillmore East: June 1971 album for sale by Frank Zappa / Frank Zappa & The Mothers was released May 30, 1995 on the Ryko Distribution label. | Does Humor Belong in Music? In a word, YES, and this live album, a favorite among Frank Zappa fans, is proof. For a year prior to this recording, Flo & Eddie had perfected their routine (written by Zappa) while touring with the Mothers of Invention and during the making of the movie "200 Motels". The piece entitled "Do You Like My New Car?" was edited out of the movie for some unknown reason but is presented here in fine form. The comedic sketches are interweaved with some very well performed musical passages that only the Mothers could do. "Little House I Used To Live In" and "Willie the Pimp" are shining examples of the talent of the musicians. During this same performance at the Fillmore East (a week before it shut down) John Lennon and Yoko Ono were invited on stage to jam, documented on Lennon's album "Sometime in New York City". | Superb Zappa!! Incr5edible live performance by Frank & the Mothers. If you had the oppurtunity to attend a Zappa concert, this is a great example of what you would have heard. By bufffoon (Whitesboro, NY, usa) |
| Vintage Flo & Eddie era Zappa This is an absolute classic. Harken back to 1971, and remember where other bands of the time were. Frank and company were so far ahead of the curve, in terms of the music and performance, it's hard to reconcile. Don't think about it. Buy it. Now. With that said, be advised that this album contains *adult* content. A good companion piece is "Playground Psychotics", also from the Flo & Eddie era. By Jack (Belleville, IL) |
