Sleep Dirt album for sale by Frank Zappa was released May 02, 1995 on the Ryko Distribution label. Always a prolific, restless artist, Frank Zappa was constantly recording. ||Loved the original vinyl!|
I have to admit I was a little deflated when I bought the remastered CD and had to 'listen through' the vocals on most of the songs to hear the musiacl prowess of lord Zappa. I wished I had better preserved the vinyl that I wore through in high school! But, regardless Sleep Dirt is valid musical genius in either form. Maybe I will get a personal concert from the master himself when I get to heaven!

I can't say I've ever heard the totally instumental version, but I think I need to. I don't care for the vocals at all, and prefer to usually skip those tracks, although the music behind the vocals has at times caught my attention. The tracks that are purely instrumental are great, with the first and last songs being pure Zappa genius! CRANK SOME FRANK!

What do you mean ? I did not know of the original instrumental album. I heard first the "ruining vocals" one.... I think exactly the opposite. No way to listen to Flambay without that fantastic singer ! She rules, at least on this song (and Time is money too). I am not fond of singers and 90% of what I listen is instrumental, but you should not be so "integrist", I still do not understand how the singing part of Flambay can be bashed........???

THE VOCALS RUIN THIS CD! THE VINYL AND THE TAPE WERE 100% INSTRUMENTAL. THE BARKING PUMKIN SHOULD GIVE ZAPPA FANS A CHOICE! BUY THE ORIGINAL GREAT INSTRUMENTAL OR BUY THIS DISMAL VOCAL RENDITION.

||Instrumental FZ at his best...|
Having been a FZ fan for many years, I would have to say that Sleep Dirt is one of my favorite albums. As for the CD, well...I wasn't too thrilled to hear vocals on several of the tracks when I purchased that version a few years back. I'm not sure what ol' Frank was thinking when he decided to do that, but I still have to respect his diverse ways. Guess that's what's always made his music so interesting. I'm glad I've got it on vinyl though. As far as I'm concerned...it's a collector's item!
