WALKING ON THIN ICE, a handy 19-track condensation of 1991's four-disc ONOBOX collection, presents an illuminating and remarkable overview of the solo work of pop music's most misunderstood artist. WALKING is named after the song Ono and John Lennon were working on the night of Lennon's murder. Because Ono was introduced to the general public by such intentionally chaotic Ono/Lennon collaborations as 1968's controversial TWO VIRGINS, public perception of her work is limited to the image of the tiny Japanese woman yowling and ululating over squalling guitar feedback and manipulated tapes. On the '70s and '80s solo albums documented here, however, Ono favors a provocative blend of basic rock & roll, free jazz, and delicate Asian melodies. She tops her tunes with articulate, often political, and sometimes angry lyrics. The best songs here, including "Death Of Samantha," "Yangyang," and "Give Me Something," are intelligent, forceful and fascinating.Rolling Stone (10/31/02, p.140) - Ranked # 48 in Rolling Stone's "Women in Rock: The 50 Essential Albums" - "...An essential collection..." Walking On Thin Ice Music Yoko Ono Walking On Thin Ice Songs Walking On Thin Ice Music Walking On Thin Ice Music Review Average Rating: (3.3 out of 5 stars) YOU GO, YOKO! OK now, let's get a few things straight. First of all, many strange people have made it into the pop mainstream and even became big stars: Bob Dylan, Grace Jones, Patti Smith, Eminem, need I say more? Second, Yoko Ono did NOT break up The Beatles. Third, she is not a weird lady with no talent. She is, however, a weird lady WITH talent. Her voice, for instance. Far from being mindless screeching, as some claim, her technique is carefully planned and controlled, and she can produce everything from a breathless whisper to a primal scream. The music on this CD includes everything found on this and other worlds. If I had to label it, I would call it Japanese Alternative New Wave Pop-Rock, with the emphasis on "Rock", because a lot of it is harder than you would expect. To get an idea of the diversity here, listen to the last 2 cuts: "Woman Power" rocks harder than any Def Leppard hit, and "O'oh" could have been a smash for Debbie Gibson. Other cuts are worthy of mention. "Walking On Thin Ice" and "Hell In Paradise" are the twin dance songs from Hell. "No, No, No" has Yoko playing 3 parts: herself, her conscience, and a man she is contemplating sex with. It is amusing and seriously revealing at the same time. "Sleepless Nights" has Yoko asking the musical question "What's a horny girl to do?" And "You're The One" manages to be as melodramatic as a Japanese horror movie, and at the same time breaks my heart as she describes her all-emcompassing relationship with John Lennon and the misconceptions about it, those of the world and of the 2 lovers themselves. And finally, we can be thankful that these songs give us a glimpse into the mind of an artist who lives in a world of ideas. To her, this world is as real as the one in which the rest of us get up in the morning to eat breakfast. If you think that all female vocalists should sound like Celine Dion, then forget it. But if you are open-minded, give this collection a listen. Submitted by stevenx9 (Mandeville, LA USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
interesting This was purchased as a joke. The music, for the most part is ok. However, they do get off key. I can only assume they were trying to match Yoko's most horrid voice. Yoko has to be the worst singer I have ever heard.
Overall, this makes the perfect gag gift Submitted by a reviewer (birmingham, al, usa) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Fair enough. I'm not too sure if this could be considered a best of collection of Yoko ono as it is missing MANY great other sonsg she's recorded.
But I guess it's pretty comprehensive. Submitted by a reviewer (new york, new york) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
SOME of her best A number of key tracks are missing, and some that are included don't belong at all, but this is still proof-positive of Ono's talent and her influence in pop music. Submitted by swimthesea (smalltown, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Thin Lizzy Thunder And Lightning CD (1983)
Walking On Thin Ice album
$9.69 Digitally remastered by Eddie Shreyer & Brian Slagel (Future Disc).
Thin Lizzy's final studio release, Thunder and Lightning, was their most consistent album since 1979's Black Rose. Guitarist John Sykes replaced Snowy White, and the new blood must have inspired Lynott and company to write some of their best compositions in years. Although a pop-metal production hinders the tracks, there's more of a harder edge present than on their last release, Renegade. While the title track served as the ensuing tour's raging opener, half-baked lyrics detailing a fistfight and an unwarranted synth-solo weakens ...

| | Jimmy Buffett Somewhere Over China CD (1982)
Walking On Thin Ice songs
$8.09 If most of Buffett's best albums have been musical evocations of tropical party times, SOMEWHERE OVER CHINA would seem to be the inevitable hangover; the songs, with few exceptions, reek of crankiness, nostalgia, and self-doubt, as can be readily seen from titles like "Where's the Party," "It's Midnight and I'm Not Famous Yet" (Buffett's--no kidding--attempt at new wave), or "I Heard I Was in Town." The epic title tune, which recycles musical cliches of the "Chinatown, My Chinatown" variety, may ...

| | Foxtrot Zulu Tonight CD (2008)
Walking On Thin Ice CD music
$18.99 It began innocently enough. Well, innocent may not be the best word, but it began nonetheless, in a smoky basement at the University of Rhode Island, circa 1994.From an inauspicious start, Foxtrot Zulu began to develop a core sound that “brings together a kaleidoscope of influences to create their own unique sound. Rock, jazz, folk, funk and ska intertwine within the framework of highly melodic and finely crafted songs,” (Relix Magazine). At the same time, Foxtrot developed a strong and devoted local following at clubs throughout Rhode Island and small pockets in the northeast. The next several years Foxtrot hit the road and, in between gigs, recorded two independent releases, Moe's Diner (1995) and Burn Slow (1997), and used constant touring throughout the Northeast and Atlantic regions to hone its live performance and original sound that “mixes catchy pop melodies with the steady backbeat of rhythm and percussive grooves,” (Washington Times). The band's highly energetic live performances began drawing bigger and bigger crowds of devotees as they expanded their touring range across the United States. With the release of the third album, Frozen In Time (1999), the band's touring schedule and crowds increased, and Foxtrot found itself playing in front of larger and larger audiences at festivals and venues from Canada to California and all ...
