Long Road Home album
$15.85 All tracks have been digitally mastered using 24-bit technology.
Classic Moods refers to a number of things -- classic songs, the classic small hard-bop group, the classic sound of jazz ballads. It's clear that Ernie Watts was out to recapture the spirit of his hero John Coltrane's exquisite Ballads, and what's surprising is how close he comes to fulfilling his goal. Working with pianist Mulgrew Miller, bassist George Mraz and drummer Jimmy Cobb, Watts recaptures the classic ...
| | Reggie Workman Summit Conference CD (1993)
Long Road Home CD music
$5.85 For this inspired 1994 date, veteran bassist Reggie Workman assembled four fellow avant-garde luminaries: pianist Andrew Hill, saxophonist Sam Rivers, trombonist Julian Priester, and drummer Pheeroan akLaff. By the usual standards of these highly adventurous players, the record is relatively accessible, but it does makes for challenging listening. The quintet opens with "Encounter," a busy and bold selection by the late John Carter. Overall, only Workman's "Summit Conference" and Priester's "Breath" feature sustained periods of cacophony, yet even these ...
| | Deep Purple Who Do We Think We Are CD (1973)
Long Road Home music CDs
$16.15 After establishing itself as a hard-rock giant, thanks to endless touring and the release of such milestone records as MACHINE HEAD and IN ROCK, Deep Purple was in a state of turmoil when it went into the studio to record 1972's WHO DO WE THINK WE ARE? Despite all the infighting, the band pulled together long enough to record seven tracks that only bolstered the band's reputation.
The best-known song, "Woman From Tokyo," boasted a riff as memorable as the one that defined "Smoke on the Water" and was later admitted by Ritchie Blackmore to have been ...

| | Gene Ammons Big Sound CD (1958)
Long Road Home music CDs
$8.49 Digitally remastered by Gary Hobish (1991, Fantasy Studios, Berkeley, California).
THE BIG SOUND is a companion to GROOVE BLUES. Both albums were recorded on a single day in 1958 and feature an impressive array of players. Ammons' tenor saxophone is joined here by John Coltrane's alto, Paul Quinichette's tenor, Pepper Adams' alto, and Jerome Richardson's flute. The rhythm section is anchored by the piano of Mal Waldron. The set opens with the slow blues "Blue Hymn," an Ammons original. Waldron's "The Real McCoy" then kicks things into higher gear with an excitingly propulsive arrangement. The massed horns state the tune's main theme before breaking off into furious soloing. Likewise, Irving Berlin's "Cheek to Cheek" swings at a clip at once laid back and relentless. ...

| | Dave Brock Memos And Demos CD (2001)
Long Road Home music CDs
$13.95 Solo material by the founder and driving force of Hawkwind, performing songs originally meant for the band.
Memos and Demos culls recordings Hawkwind leader Dave Brock made in his home studio sometime in the late '90s (precise dates are not given). They must be approached as laboratory experiments, although they are fully developed ideas, not half-cooked tracks. Brock plays guitars, bass, keyboards, and drum machines, and he sings. All these demos were recorded with Hawkwind in mind and some ended up in the group's repertoire, especially on 2000's Spacebrock: ...
| | Clay Giberson Aiming True, Vol. 1 CD (2003)
Long Road Home songs
$14.69 An album of ambient jazz from Clay Giberson, a Northwest-based pianist with some nice chops. The whole of the album is essentially an introspective exploration through the melodies and chords. It's an intimate sound, with Giberson performing solo for the duration, and the tone of the grand piano adding to the performance quality (the sound is mildly ...

Long Road Home CD music
$9.75 The New York hardcore scene has seen many changes since its inception into the punk rock genre over 20 years ago. And throughout these changes, the music and people within the New York hardcore community continued to honor its past by adopting the same punk rock belief system that makes this style of music one of the most unique and loyal underground scenes known to music. By the start of the new millennium this very same belief system appeared to be on ...
