Basin Street Blues album
$7.95 Although this CD draws its 22 selections from clarinetist Pete Fountain's best period (his years on the Coral label), the selections picked are sometimes a bit eccentric. Fountain is heard playing Dixieland with some of his bands, but is also joined by -- choral groups and occasional strings; no personnel listing or even recording dates are included. There is some good music along the way (such as "While We Danced at the Mardi Gras," "China Boy," "High Society," "Over the Waves" and "Indiana"), and even if this material deserved more knowledgeable treatment, most of these recordings are otherwise out-of-print; few are available elsewhere on CD. ~ Scott Yanow
The title of this CD is quite inaccurate, for although it draws its 22 selections from clarinetist Pete Fountain's best period (his years on the Coral label), the selections picked are sometimes a bit eccentric. Fountain is heard playing Dixieland with some of his bands, but is also joined by inappropriate choral groups and occasional strings; worse yet, no personnel listing or even recording dates are included. There is some good music along ...

| | Claire Austin Sings When Your Lover Has Gone CD (1991)
Basin Street Blues music CDs
$13.95 Digitally remastered by Phil De Lancie (1991, Fantasy Studios, Berkeley, California).
The history of jazz and blues is full of talented artists who were obscure but didn't deserve to be. One example is Claire Austin, an expressive jazz/blues vocalist who was as proficient with intimate, introspective torch singing as she was with more extroverted classic blues. Claire Austin Sings When Your Lover Has Gone was recorded for Contemporary in 1955 and 1956, and finds Austin favoring vulnerable, relaxed, subtle torch singing (her phrasing could be described as an appealing combination of Mildred Bailey, Peggy Lee, and Billie Holiday). ...

$14.29 | | Johnny Cash Remixed CDs (2009) With DVD; Bonus Tracks; Digipak
Basin Street Blues music CDs
$11.79 Prepare to have your expectations dashed as you enter the world of JOHNNY CASH REMIXED. For this project, a host of contemporary producers and mixmasters took a batch of classic Johnny Cash tracks and brought them into the realm of modern dance music with their studio wizardry. The likes of Alabama 3 (of SOPRANOS theme fame), Pete Rock, and Count De Money take on the Man in Black, adding beats, samples, and electronic effects to such vintage Cash tracks as "Folsom Prison Blues," "I Walk the Line," and "Get Rhythm." In the process, what started out as pure country tunes undergo a sonic transformation right before your eyes. The end result is something that's neither traditional country nor exactly conventional dance music, but rather a new paradigm designed to appeal to fans of both musical camps.
These songs were recorded with Cash's band, the Tennessee Two, and were pure and stark with only the essentials: ...
