| | Righteous Brothers Unchained Melody CD Righteous Brothers Discography of CDs
(4 Customer Reviews)
Skimpy, only 10 selections, but each a soulful essential including early rockers - "Little Latin Lupe Lu," "My Babe," and their five greatest recordings: "You Lost That Lovin' Feelin'," "(You're My) Soul And Inspiration," and stirring renditions of "Unchained Melody," "Ebb Tide," and "Georgia On My Mind." Bobby Hatfield's high tenor is the perfect foil to Bill Medley's resonant baritone on combination leads, and each stand alone masterfully on solos. ~ Andrew Hamilton
Unchained Melody is a ten-track budget-priced collection that features some of the Righteous Brothers' biggest hits, including "Unchained Melody," "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'," "(You're My) Soul and Inspiration," "Ebb Tide," and "Little Latin Lupe Lu." Although there are better collections available, this isn't a bad choice for casual fans on a budget. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Righteous Brothers Unchained Melody Songs Unchained Melody Music Review Average Rating: (3.3 out of 5 stars) Re-recorded versions of classics It's one thing for an album to contain re-recorded versions, its another for the packaging not to disclose this. Essentially, these are sold as the originals until one puts the CD in the player and hears the difference. On the second volume, the label makes it obvious that that package contains some remakes, but not here - the paragraph of liner notes continues that illusion. The disappointment with these versions is not so much that they're not the originals I hoped for (well, yes it is) but that most of the songs attempt only to replicate the glorious hit versions, rather than try for something new. "Unchained Melody" isn't the desperately hard to find classic, but it is passable (OLDIES BUT GOODIES also uses this version). But "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" and "Soul And Inspiration" don't come close to the originals. There are some good moments here, but selling remarkes as originals is a disturbing practice (I've started treating compilations with more skepticism than I used to). This collection appears to be a repackaging of a reunion disc (I can't remember the name, but I've seen it), which contained many of these same songs (I didn't listen to find out if they were the same versions.) If you want the Phil Spector and Bill Medley produced originals on a single disc a great choice is the UNCHAINED MELODY - THE VERY BEST OF THE RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS (titles are close), which contains twelve songs in their classic mid-late 1960s glory. The song selection is better on that disc anyway, with "He," "Hung On You," and more. I've also heard Rhino's ANTHOLOGY is a good compilation. Alternative Recordings This CD is horrible. It is filled with recordings of the Righteous Brothers, but they are all different versions than the ones that one would expect to hear. Submitted by EStarcher (Leesburg, Virginia, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Best Of The Righteous Brothers, Vol. 2 CD (1991)
Unchained Melody CD music
$7.29 Since Best of the Righteous Brothers, Vol. 1 contained most the duo's biggest hits, the ten-track, budget-priced Best of the Righteous Brothers, Vol. 2 contains leftovers. Only "Rock and Roll Heaven" -- which is included in its original version, as well as a 1992 remake -- is an oldies staple, while "Give It to the People" and "Dream On" were minor hits. The remainder of the collection is devoted either to forgotten songs or newly recorded covers. Although this isn't bad for a budget-priced disc, there are better collections available, offering more songs and better sound for not much more money. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

| | Very Best Of The Righteous Brothers: Unchained Melody CD (1990)
Unchained Melody music CDs
$11.99 Though any mention of the Righteous Brothers immediately conjures up the strains of "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" and "Unchained Melody" (usually in that order), the duo also released many other fine singles during the 1960s. This 12-track collection, issued on Verve (a label primarily known for jazz), begins with the two aforementioned runaway hits, and then moves into less familiar, but no-less charming territory, with producer Phil Spector providing his larger-than-life "wall of sound" production to some of the other songs, including the ...
| | Simon & Garfunkel Best Of Simon & Garfunkel CD (1999) Remastered
Unchained Melody songs
$9.75 Following the critically and commercially successful 1997 OLD FRIENDS box set, Legacy released a single-disc Simon & Garfunkel best-of collection. Simon & Garfunkel's are arguably the most successful duo in pop history, and this set features all of their charting songs. The disc is also an improvement on their 1972 GREATEST HITS release, with nearly twice the number of tracks, remastered sound, and wonderful liner notes by David Halberstram.
"The Sound of Silence," an anthem for a bygone era, leads into the reflective "Homeward Bound." Though it may not have climbed as high on the charts, the haunting and string-laden "The Dangling Conversation" is another standout track. "The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)" and "At the Zoo" are the two greatest metropolitan Sunday songs in history. Also included are "The Boxer" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water" two bona fide classics, as well as the non-hit single "Song for the Asking." The album concludes ...
| | Best Of The Moody Blues CD (1997)
Unchained Melody album
$10.45 THE BEST OF THE MOODY BLUES contains vintage photographs and a conversation with Justin Hayward.
Recorded between 1964 and 1988. Includes liner notes by John Reed.
By keeping it simple and sticking to the hits, this collection successfully relates the story of this pioneering band. The Moody Blues began as a Gerry & the Pacemakers-like, R&B-influenced band fronted by sad-voiced singer Denny Laine, who is heard here on "Go Now." Laine was replaced by Justin Hayward, keyboardist Mike Pinder brought in a Mellotron, and the band hooked up with the London Symphony Orchestra to make the first orchestral-rock album DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED, from which "Tuesday Afternoon" and "Nights in White Satin" are included on this album.
Over the next few years the band banged out several gem albums that were full of a distinctive mix of folk-tinged ballads and ambitious prog-rock. Cuts from this period take up a healthy piece of this collection. After a lengthy sabbatical, the Moodies made a comeback in 1981, and with an updated sound (more synth, ...
| | Very Best Of The Rascals CD (2007)
Unchained Melody CD music
$5.99 Recorded from 1965 to 1972. Includes liner notes by Parke Puterbaugh.
A satisfying budget-priced compilation, THE VERY BEST OF THE RASCALS is as good as any (Young) Rascals compilation out there. While Rhino's two-disc ANTHOLOGY 1965-1972 has it beat in terms of comprehensiveness, these 16 tracks, from their first hit "Ain't Gonna Eat My Heart Out Anymore" to their last chart success "See," are the cream of the crop.
All of the hits are here, naturally, including "Good Lovin'," "People Got To Be Free," the superlative "How Can I Be Sure," and of course their biggest hit, "Groovin'." The lesser-known singles and key album tracks, like "A Girl Like You" and "I've Been Lonely Too Long," are nearly the equal of the hits, and overall, this is as solid a collection of '60s blue-eyed soul as you'll find.
Compilation producer: Gary Stewart.
Personnel: Gene Cornish (vocals, guitar); Felix Cavaliere (vocals, piano, organ); Eddie Brigati (vocals, drums, congas, percussion); Chuck Rainey, Gerald Jemmott, Hog Cowart (vocals); Gene Orloff (strings); ...

| | 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best Of Pablo Cruise CD (2001)
Unchained Melody album
$7.25 Two of Pablo Cruise's charting singles -- "Never Had a Love," which went to 87 in 1978 and "Slip Away," which peaked at 75 in 1981 -- are missing from their edition of Universal's 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection series. That means their remaining seven hits -- including all their biggest, like "Whatcha Gonna Do?," "Love Will Find a Way," "Cool Love," "I Want You Tonight," and "Don't Want to Live Without It" -- are here, along with five album selections. So, it may be possible to quibble that this isn't really definitive, solely on the basis of those missing hits, but for many listeners, this is as close to definitive as they need, since it really does contain Pablo Cruise's windswept, sun-mellowed blend of melodic Californian soft rock and lite jazz fusion. This music may recall the times -- that netherworld of the late Carter administration and pre-Reagan assassination attempt -- but its best moments (those aforementioned singles) are soft classics of the era, and this is one of the best ways ...

| | Traciana Graves Songs Of A Prodigal Daughter CD (2006)
Unchained Melody album
$13.85 Traciana Graves is a very intoxicating young woman. Born in Harlem, U.S. A. she was largely raised in France when the career of her model mother took the family abroad. It is in France where Traciana became immersed in the arts and music. She taught herself to become a guitarist, studied at the Sorbonne and became the first American accepted into the prestigious National Acting Conservatory in France. This foundation lead her to become a sought after background singer for the likes of Celine Dion, Steel Pulse, Youssou N' Dour, Andrew Lloyd Webber and others. Songs of A Prodigal Daughter is a true reflection on the essence of a bracing singer/songwriter Traciana Graves. Acclaimed Living Colour guitarist Vernon Reid took an interest to Traciana's unique musical viewpoint and among other things introduced her to producer V. Jeffrey Smith of The Family Stand (Des ree, Paula Abdul ,Heather Headley). Together Smith and Traciana crafted an album (based in the alternative soulful pop akin to ...
