| | Pal Joey/With A Song In My Heart CD (2003) Original Soundtrack
Mr. Lonely: His Greatest Songs Today music CDs
$8.79 This two-fer CD reissue combines the contents of a couple of 1952 LPs prominently featuring Jane Froman. With a Song in My Heart was a Froman bio-pic starring Susan Hayward that was one of the more successful films of the year. Froman's life story, which turned on her survival of an airplane crash when she was going to Europe to entertain the troops during World War II and her struggle to recover afterwards, made for an emotional film, and the soundtrack album consisted of her recordings of period songs including "I'll Walk Alone," "They're Either Too Young or Too Old," and a patriotic medley. None of Alfred Newman's Oscar-winning score was included, and as such, the album is basically a Froman best-of. Its association with the film, however, assured it of success, and it topped the Billboard charts for a remarkable 25 weeks. The same year, Froman stepped into the cast recording for a Broadway revival of Pal Joey because Vivienne Segal, star of the original production and the revival, was contracted to Columbia Records while Capitol controlled rights to ...

| | Cafe Del Mar Volume Eight CD (2001)
Mr. Lonely: His Greatest Songs Today songs
$12.15 In the 1990s, the Café del Mar compilations became a fashionable alternative to the more aggressive and forceful electronic sounds that people were dancing to at raves. If you were open to hearing electronic club music but didn't care for techno, trance, jungle/drum'n'bass, or acid house, the Café del Mar compilations could acquaint you with a whole other electronic world -- an ambient/trip-hop world with a laid-back, chill-out orientation. Café del Mar, Vol. 8, which MCA assembled in 2001, isn't a radical departure from its predecessors. An ambient/trip-hop approach to electronica still prevails, and MCA keeps things relaxed with sleek offerings like Mari Boine's "Gula Gula," Illumination's "Cookie Raver," and Digby Jones' "Pina Colada." The best-known artist on the CD is Dido, who fans of hardcore rap know from Eminem's "Stan" -- and who has ...
| | Sonny James Complete Columbia & Monument Hits CD (2002)
Mr. Lonely: His Greatest Songs Today album
$14.29 Recorded between 1972 & 1979. Includes liner notes by Greg Adams.
By the time that this single-disc compilation picks up the Sonny James (guitar/vocals) story, he had already entered his third decade as a country music artist. His streak of 20 consecutive chart-topping hits in the early to mid-'60s is the stuff of legend. This 22-track title gathers all of James' charting hits extracted from the 11 long-players issued in the '70s for the Columbia and Monument labels. Interestingly, during this seemingly prolific period, James considered his primary focus to be producing and music publishing. Early in his career, the vocalist adopted the persona of Nashville's "Southern Gentleman." His easy, non-threatening demeanor as well as warm and inviting inflection made him a great crossover artist into the pop realm as well. The set opens with the number one single "When the Snow Is on the Roses," which began another string of hits. Among the higher-profile inclusions are the romantic epic "A Mi Esposa con Amor (To My Wife With Love)," "What in the World's Come Over You," "A Little Bit South of Saskatoon," and "Little Band of Gold." James also found success covering a wide spectrum of genres. These range from his tongue-in-cheek interpretation of the ...
