(1 Customer Review)
Best of Eydie Gormé is a 12-track budget-priced collection that features some of her biggest hits, including "Fly Me to Moon," "Love Letters," "September Song," "April Showers," "Tea for Two," "Day By Day," "It Could Happen to You," "I'll Take Romance" and "Be Careful, It's My Heart." Although this isn't a bad budget-priced disc, there are far better Gormé collections available, offering more songs and better sound for not much more money. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine Best Of Eydie Gorme Music | Category | Rock/Pop Albums, Rock CDs, International, Pop, Contemporary Blues, Nostalgia, Vocal, Bolero, Easy Listening, Greatest Hits Collections | | Label | Curb | | Orig Year | 1991 | | All Time Sales Rank | 14186 | | CD Universe Part number | 1015347 | | Catalog number | 77413 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Feb 26, 1991 | | Studio/Live | Studio | | Mono/Stereo | Stereo |
Best Of Eydie Gorme Music Best Of Eydie Gorme Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Eydie Gorme Lives! I remember Eydie from my teenage years, but she was too "uncool" for me then. Back then, it was all Beatles, Stones & Dylan. Now that I have matured, I appreciate Eydie - along with Beatles, Stones & Dylan. This CD is a very fine collection of familiar songs, and her clear, slightly plaintive voice serves the material well. My favorites are "Fly Me To The Moon", "September Song" and "It Could Happen To You". Another special song is "Tea For Two", which, frankly, I always thought was rather dumb. But Eydie, by slowing it down, transforms it from cutesy to romantic, thereby making it very worthwhile. There are 2 other oddities to look for. At the very end of "I'll Take Romance", Eydie emits a series of increasingly higher notes that could shatter glass. And in the middle of the final cut, "You Need Hands", there is a tap-dancing sequence (Yes, I said tap-dancing), so obviously it was recorded live, not in the studio. All in all, the collection works, and I'm proud to be a fan of Eydie's after all these years. Submitted by stevenx9 (Mandeville, LA USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.

| | Rosemary Clooney 16 Biggest Hits CDs (2000) Remastered
Best Of Eydie Gorme
$7.59 Confusing as it may seem, the 16 Biggest Hits series of anthologies from Sony's archival imprint Legacy is more a brand name than a literal description of the contents of the albums. As with the label's less literally titled 16 Most Requested Songs series, these albums are likely to contain many of an artist's most successful single releases as registered in the national charts but not to quite fulfill the title. And so it is with the Rosemary Clooney entry. Clooney launched a solo career on the eventual Sony-owned Columbia Records label in 1950 after splitting with her sister Betty and the Tony Pastor Orchestra, and she racked up a series of hits before departing in 1957, at which time her commercial success declined. 16 Biggest Hits contains 11 of her 16 biggest hits from this period, including her four number one singles, "Come on-a My House," "Half as Much," "Hey There," and "This Ole House." The five missing titles are the Top Ten hits "Beautiful Brown Eyes" and "The Night Before Christmas Song," the Top 20 hits "Be My Life's Companion" and "Too Old to Cut the Mustard," and the Top 40 hit "I'm Waiting Just for You." In their place, the compilers have substituted "Sisters," ...

| | 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection: The Best Of Ella Fitzgerald CD (2003)
Best Of Eydie Gorme
$7.45 Recorded between 1938 & 1963. Includes liner note by Joseph F. Laredo.
This is part of Universal Records "20th Century Masters The Millenium Collection" series.
This budget-priced 12-song compilation provides the listener a quick introduction to the work of Ella Fitzgerald. The collection focuses mainly on her work in the 1950s for Verve but also includes her 1938 hit for Decca, "A-Tisket A-Tasket," the 1939 song "Undecided," her 1949 recording of "I'm Just a Lucky So-and-So," and two tracks from the early '60s: "A Fine Romance" from 1963's The Jerome Kern Song Book and "Blues in the Night" from 1961's Sings the Harold Arlen Song Book. The songs from the 1950s are thought by many to be Ella's best work, and her duets with Louis Armstrong are considered right near the top. The two jazz giants recorded "Dream a Little Dream of Me" in 1950. Other highlights from the 1950s are her reworking of an earlier hit, "You'll Have to Swing It (Mr. Paganini), Pts. 1 & 2" from 1952 with Sy Oliver's big band, her sweet take on "But Not for Me" from 1950's Ella Sings Gershwin, and the beautiful "Just A-Sittin' and A-Rockin'" from 1957's triumphant Sings the Duke Ellington Song Book. The disc is nowhere near comprehensive but gives a good idea ...
| | Minor Threat Complete Discography CD (1988)
Best Of Eydie Gorme
$10.65 The Washington, D.C. straightedge hardcore punk scene began with Minor Threat. The band recorded two LPs on its own Dischord label, plus an EP and the miscellaneous singles that are collected on this CD. Many of the early recordings on this collection seethe with teen-age angst and indignation. The songs rage against bullies, religious hypocrisy, and the herd mentality.
Other songs, taken from later in Minor Threat's career, feature tighter and more sophisticated playing. Metallic flourishes tinge the guitar work, vocal harmonies abound, and song dynamics vary more than on the earlier record. On certain songs, Ian MacKaye's lyrics address the complexities of friendship, loyalty, and self-expression. "Look Back and Laugh," "Little Friend," and "It Follows" all incline more toward introspection and ambiguity; conveying loss and sadness in addition to outrage. This second set of songs seems to especially anticipate MacKaye's later work with Fugazi. The album also contains a few playful numbers like ...
