| | Freddie Hart Best Of... CD (2006)
Best Of Ernest Ashworth
$5.15 At 10 tracks, this Freddie Hart best-of collection is a bit skimpy, but it still covers all the best-known hits by the honky tonk-flavored country-pop artist. Although Hart began recording in the 1950s, he didn't hit his commercial stride until the early '70s, when the sweet, lilting "Easy Loving" became a runaway hit. That tune is included, of course, along with tear-in-your-beer numbers like "Bless Your Heart" and emotive love songs like "Got the All Overs for You (All Over Me)." Hart isn't afraid of lush arrangements, and rarely ups the tempo past mid-level, but his expressive songs of longing are the stuff barroom ballads are built on. BEST OF offers an introductory crash course in all of these styles and more. This is an enjoyable sampler highlighting Freddie Hart's honky tonk hits from the early '70s for the Capitol label. These ten tracks mirror the out of print Cema Special Markets package with the same running order but different cover art. This short collection ...

| | Fine Dining Debutantes & Dilettantes CD (2005)
Best Of Ernest Ashworth
$13.89 Based on two college campuses in Ohio, Fine Dining creates music that bridges the gap between catchy, quirky pop and noisy, energetic rock and roll. Here's some reviews of the band's debut full-length, Debutantes and Dilettantes. The Columbus Dispatch:"From the first note, the album signals something special. 'Santiago's Revenge' cuts loose with Superchunk's rampant energy, rides on a melody as offhanded as one of Pavement's and is as catchy as a Shins tune. The album keeps up the pace for the length and gets quirkier."Kevin Elliott, The Columbus Alive:"For the lads in Fine Dining, living on separate campuses-Ohio State and Ohio University-is both a blessing and a curse. Musical pen pals for the past two years, they've resurrected the proverbial indie pop spirit by traveling the narrow roads that connect the Capital City with the forest.Though a decade removed from classic albums like Pavement's Wowee Zowee and Sebadoh's Bakesale, Fine Dining's shambolic self-released debut, Debutantes and Dilettantes, bristles with that same worn-in, twee-loving, off-the-cuff vibe of four-track tapes informed by the collegiate lifestyle and weekend crushes.Their revivalism is actually a breath of fresh air, though. The leading charge of the stuttered "Santiago's Revenge" ...
