| | Makem & Clancy Two For The Early Dew CD Makem & Clancy Discography of CDs
Tommy Makem and Liam Clancy may be the two most famous Irish musicians in history. This 1970s recording documents several Irish classics and even a few tunes written by Makem and Clancy themselves which have become classics in their own right. The deep voice of Tommy Makem and the lighter toned singing of Liam Clancy blend well together on this eleven song disc. We hear this best on "Bower Madden (Off to California)," "The Newry Highwayman" and the lovely yet forlorn melody of "The Parting Song (Journey's End)."
Generally upbeat and highly poetic, this music captures the true spirit of Ireland and its culture. J.B. Goodenough's poem, "White Swans and Black" adds the final brushstrokes of Irish romanticism to this release. Joined by a host of traditional Irish musicians, TWO FOR THE EARLY DEW is a very memorable collaboration.

$14.35 The glimpse afforded by director Mandy Stein's documentary into the world of four Mississippi bluesmen, who comprise the roster of Fat Possum Records, is a testament to a musical era that many consider passed. R.L. Burnside, the late Junior Kimbrough, Cedell Davis, and T-Model Ford, have lived the life commemorated in the music they play; from a lifetime of illness in Davis' case to Burnside's tragic family history, these men epitomize the blues, and relay their experiences here in both interviews and song. The story of Fat Possum's ...

Two For The Early Dew album
$12.35 Until it was issued on CD by Ace in 1999, the existence of Eramus Hall's Your Love Is My Desire was debated. Recorded in late 1978 by the soul/funk group -- the artwork and the artist name lead one to believe this a solo work, but Eramus Hall took its name from a historical building in Chicago -- the Westbound label was unable to release it until 1980. "Release" is putting it loosely, as the small pressing hardly allowed for any copies to reach anywhere outside of Westbound's base in Detroit. Prior to and since the Ace reissue, Your Love Is My Desire has been proclaimed a masterpiece ...
| | Solas Another Day CD (2003)
Two For The Early Dew CD music
$14.19 Solas have a vision that extends past the lexicon of traditional Celtic music. They've covered musical ground that similar groups often overlook, mining the rich catalogues of past and present songwriters like Tom Waits, Nick Drake, and Peggy Seeger, as well as composing their own songs. On their sixth record, Another Day, they take the latter approach, opting for only two covers, a sweet rendition of Dan Fogelberg's "Scarecrow's Dream," and an almost Baroque pop version of Dougie MacLean's "This Love Will Carry." Virtuoso fiddler Winifred Horan's contribution, the elegant "Highlands of Holland," swings and twists, showing off her classically trained chops without being indulgent, and segues flawlessly into Kieran Goss' beautiful ballad, "All That You Ask Me." Accordion player Mick McAuley (who's fine solo record Ocean's Breadth featured alms from the majority of the group) and founding member, guitarist, and producer Seamus Egan are the ...
