| Hibernian Rhapsody Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Oh, Tommy Boy! A few months back there was a program on the song Danny Boy (The Londonderry Air). It was hosted by Eric Clapton and featured many performances of the song, some complete and some only a few seconds long.Marianne Faithful's mannered, growling 1930's Berlin version was played in its entirety, while De Dannan, the best version by far, was shaved to a few seconds of Tommy Flemming's wonderful vibrato tenor after which Clapton switched to Frankie Gavin's penny whistle. To watch Tommy sing is to enter an Irish pub late at night. He sings with none of the practised gestures of the pro, but rather with Janis Joplin's off in another world, eyes closed, dreaming alone style. The rest of the album is typical De Dannan, probably the best Irish group around. Submitted by terry.tjc (Mississaug, Ont, Canada) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Released to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the release of the first Doors album, THE VERY BEST OF THE DOORS supercedes all former Doors compilations. At two discs and 34 tracks, this is quite comprehensive for a band whose key lineup released only half a dozen albums. In addition to all the expected hits like "Light My Fire," "Hello I Love You," and "Roadhouse ...

Hibernian Rhapsody music CDs

"The Promise" was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance and Best Rock Song.
This single-disc sampler was put together in deference to Springsteen fans unprepared to shell out the cash for the TRACKS box set. It features many of the key tracks from the box, illuminating the Boss's career beyond the official album cuts. From the infectious, good-humored "Part Man, Part Monkey" to the rock & roll anthem "Where the Bands Are" and the chilling acoustic version of "Born in the U.S.A," 18 TRACKS is Springsteen at his best. The prolific songwriter has always come up with way too much material for whatever album he was working on, and the cuts left over are never less than top-notch. Thus, 18 TRACKS (not to mention its parent box set) is no collection of cast-offs. Rather, it's an alternate, equally compelling history of the quintessential American rock & roller. As an added inducement, there are bonus tracks here that don't appear on the box, included the beloved "The Promise" and "The Fever."
Includes liner notes by Bruce Springsteen.

On its third outing, the multi-cultural sonic collective known as the Afro-Celt Sound System continues to flex its eclectic musical muscles in a variety of areas. As on past recordings, the predominant sound is a mix of world music, dance/electronica, pop, and a kind of modern art-rock.
The opening track "North" typifies this approach, as tribal chanting and African-sounding rhythms collide with swirling bagpipes in a very danceable and digestible manner. There are more traditional pop-oriented moments on further in, and a couple of those are illuminated by some high-profile guest vocalists who bring a lot of themselves to their contributions. Peter Gabriel pops up on "When You're Falling," which wouldn't have sounded out of place on one of his '80s recordings, and Robert Plant sings on "Life Begins Again," creating ...
