Sometimes when purchasing music CDs over the internet is like buying a pig in a poke, however this CD is excellent. All tracks are very good. John Carty is a great musician and I can honestly say that I got exactly what I wanted. Thank you CD Universe for your great selection of music. It is easy to find something a little special from this site.

Gerry O'Connor is a banjo player--but he's not a country or bluegrass performer. Yet bluegrass and country (and much more) are part of what he does. O'Connor is known as a traditional Irish folk musician, but he unassumingly enriches the folk tradition by exploring country and bluegrass (both have roots in Irish folk) and jazz. His treatment of trad reels in "The Garrykennedy Set" will delight Irish folk fans, and "Song for P.J." is a lovely, sweet-sad tune worthy of Ry Cooder (recalling his film music), in which early country, rural blues, and Irish folk are shown to have a lot in common. The jaunty "Temple Bar Jam" sounds like the result of "Minnie the Moocher" visiting Dublin (nice mellow trumpet here). To a Celtic purist, Scottish/Celtic music isn't something you combine with rock and pop; you treat it like a museum piece and don't do anything to alter it. This is an enhanced audio CD which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. As one of the key groups to set the Celtic music revolution rolling in Canada, the Rankin Family definitely has their place in the country's musical tapestry.
