Although usually classified as a blues musician, Mississippi John Hurt shares little musical common ground with the Mississippi Delta bluesmen that were his contemporaries. Hurt's gentle approach to guitar (which he finger-picks expertly), his vocals, and his highly melodic repertoire fall more easily into the folk category. Indeed, Hurt's music inspired a generation of '60s folkies. REDISCOVERED collects many of the recordings that folk musicians value so dearly, anthologizing the four LPs Hurt made for Vanguard Records in the '60s.
Although well on in years when he made these recordings, Hurt plays and sings magnificently-no mean feat considering the challenges presented by his elaborate guitar style. Many of Hurt's signature tunes are here: "Make Me a Pallet on Your Floor," "Stagolee," and "Candy Man" all appear, although the omission of a few classics ("Louis Collins" and "Casey Jones," to name two) prevents REDISCOVERED from being the definitive single-disc compilation of Hurt's later recordings. Still, with 24 bona fide classics, REDISCOVERED isn't a bad place to start your Hurt collection. On the other hand, since Hurt's Vanguard albums are all classics, you might want to skip this disc and head straight for the original releases. In the '60s and early '70s, Hooker experienced an enormous surge in popularity as folk and rock audiences began to discover the joys of traditional blues. Though the days of Hooker's classic Chess sides-which featured only the bluesman's raw voice, wiry, distorted electric guitar, and a rhythm track consisting of Hooker's foot pounding a miked 2x4-were long gone, the artist had attained a new fluency with full backing bands.
The tunes included here are culled from some of Hooker's finest '60s releases, including IT SERVES YOU RIGHT TO SUFFER, THE REAL FOLK BLUES, and URBAN BLUES. The disc is packed with favorites-"One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer," "I'm In The Mood," "House Rent Boogie," and an incendiary live version of "I'm Bad Like Jesse James" that features the mind-boggling line-up of Otis Spann on piano and Muddy Waters, Sammy Lawhorn, and Luther Johnson on guitars. Many of the sessions, in fact, are studded ...

Rediscovered songs
$5.99 The story of Everything After Grace begins in March, 2005. After the splitting up of their bands, four guys decide to create a new band of their own to satisfy their need to play and create music. It's evident to all of them that the most essential thing is to be on the same wavelength, therefore they choose together the covers they will play. The choice falls upon some songs by Counting Crows, Pixies, Rhcp and Radiohead (a wide-ranging, little known but well balanced repertory). The band still misses a drummer, but the position is filled in no time by Alessio, a beginner but endowed with evident talent. The band starts playing and refining their musical tuning. As the weeks pass their skills improve and a strong friendship begins. They achieve a very good level in a short time, still their music sounds as if it missed something…a keyboard! Roberto, the youngest of the band, becomes thus a member of Everything After Grace. The guys are ready for a live show, and the first takes place on June 25, 2005 at "laboratorio sociale Banzai" in Pontelongo. Their nervousness notwithstanding the band receives many praises. Their second live show comes after a long time, on September 2the Everything After Grace (having passed a selection) participate at the "Giovani in Musica" contest in Sant'Angelo di Piove. Thanks to a great live performance they achieve the 4th position, outperforming older and more experienced bands.A couple of shows later, the band begins to tire of the "cover band" label they got and so they spend the next winter creating their own songs. After a long but rewarding work five songs are composed. They will form the first demo of Everything After Grace( "fill the world with this sound"), that can be downloaded free of charge from their site (www.everythingaftergrace.com) from August 2006. The demo receives positive feedback from the fans and the 300 copies that ...
