(1 Customer Review)
Reissued several times in various forms since its initial 1987 release, Spacemen 3's second album is a remarkable departure from the band's 1986 debut, SOUND OF CONFUSION. Reduced to a trio (guitarists/keyboardists Pete "Sonic Boom" Kember, Jason "Spaceman" Pierce, and bassist Pete Bassman) following the departure of the first album's drummer, Spacemen 3 makes an asset out of the newfound lack of percussion, giving THE PERFECT PRESCRIPTION a considerably less rock-oriented sound with much more open space in its varied, subtle arrangements. Highlights include one of Spacemen 3's finest cover versions, an extremely long, beautifully lush, violin-accented meditation on the Red Krayola's classic "Transparent Radiation," as well as the foreboding "Take Me to the Other Side." The album title introduces Pierce's pharmaceutical fixation, further developed in later Spacemen 3 album titles and Spiritualized cover art, but this album sounds suitably mind-warping on its own.
Producers: Pete "Sonic Boom" Kember, Jason Pierce.
Spacemen 3: Jason (vocals, guitar, organ, Farfisa organ); Sonic Boom (vocals, guitar, organ); Bassman (bass).
Additional personnel: Owen John (violin); Alex Green (saxophone); Mick Manning (trumpet); Rosco (percussion).
Alternative Press (7/95, p.83) - Ranked #31 in AP's list of the `Top 99 Of '85-'95' - "...They had British style and an American heart. They created mutant Thatcher-era gospels and on-the-dole recession blues....THE PERFECT PRESCRIPTION was exactly that: Something gorgeous to see you through the Everyday and the Endless Night." Record Collector (magazine) (p.108) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "Spacemen 3 truly enter the outerworld. Each drifting headtrip slowly, but delicately, flutters in the ether, fueled by carefully plucked notes and sweeping violins." | | Arcade Fire Funeral CD (2004)
Perfect Prescription music CDs
$12.05 This Montreal ensemble's fiery debut is marked by surging guitars, soulful strings, driving drums, brilliant bass lines, and the quavering vocals of married couple Win Butler and Regine Chassagne. The group's song structures careen through a vast territory of musical and personal history, with lyrics warm with memories of childhood neighborhoods and deceased loved ones, resulting in an alternating current of joy and sadness.
Favorably compared to the Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev, and Broken Social Scene, the Arcade Fire's sound seems to come ...

Perfect Prescription CD music
$13.09 2009 release, the third album from the Portuguese Metal band. With Blood of Bacchus Ava Inferi serve the musical equivalent to a brilliant wine. Utmost pleasing to the aural palate are the rich and sweet vocals added by Portuguese singer Carmen Simes. Her beautifully clear and emotional singing has already gained her several guest appearances with Moonspell, but it is only in Ava Inferi that her beautiful voice is unleashed to its full potential. A darker tint is added to the barrel by renowned guitarist/songwriter Rune Eriksen, who has ...
| | Bacon Brothers Getting There CD (1999) Collector's Edition
Perfect Prescription MP3 Album
$10.49 The Bacon Brothers' debut Forosoco could have been (and was) seen as a novelty item by some observers, since it featured actor Kevin Bacon and his brother, Michael. That was merely short-sightedness, since it was a solid Americana album. Its sequel, Getting There, is even better, filled with natural musical performances and strong songs. Occasionally, Kevin does sound a little strained in his vocals, but there's true conviction to his performances, and the duo has to be commended for trying so many different styles -- country, rock, soul, and folky introspection, among them -- and pulling it off convincingly. Give it a chance and you may be charmed. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

| | Judith Owen Lost And Found CD (2005) Bonus Track
Perfect Prescription music CDs
$12.05 (MP3 Available for Download) You'll probably find this album in the jazz section, but don't be fooled. Singer/songwriter/pianist Judith Owen is to jazz what Richard Thompson is to rock & roll -- a member of the loyal opposition, someone whose roots are both centuries deeper and more broadly contemporary than any easy genre designation can account for. On her fifth album, she opens with a brooding voice-and-piano arrangement of Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water," and although her generally jazzy originals fill up most of the remainder of the program, she also takes excursions into both the jazz standard repertoire (a great version of "Night and Day," featuring Richard Thompson on guitar) and more pop-oriented fare (a slightly less revelatory take on the Police's "Walking on the Moon"). Her singing style is a sort of sultry cabaret croon, and almost always adds a slightly mysterious and subtly unexpected element to her interpretations -- whether it's the strangely separated scat vowels on "Train Out of Hollywood" or (less felicitously) her unnecessarily intense delivery on "These Foolish Things." Her own songs are some of the best things on this album, though her version of "Night and Day" is another clear highlight. Recommended. ~ Rick Anderson
