Mix a bunch of hardcore punk musicians from Atlanta, add an R&B singer and put them under the tutelage of a former member of Twisted Sister and you have Sevendust. Drawing on influences from Ministry, 24-7 Spyz and Pantera to Rage Against The Machine, they create some of the heaviest music heard since metal's mid-80s heyday. Crunching guitars and the passionate, screaming vocals of Lajon attack your senses while the rhythm section chugs along relentlessly.
Starting with the flanged intro to "Black," this band grabs you in their clutches and doesn't let go, through the wah-wah sounds of "Terminator" to the last rhythmic push of "Born To Die." But don't think these guys are just out to inflict sonic whiplash on unsuspecting ears; there's a message to the madness. This multi-racial band seeks to bring peace to the world through metal. With the wide audience they've earned with their debut album, they just might succeed.

Sevendust Music Review Average Rating: (4.7 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews amazing this album and the next, 'home' are their best. one of the few 'newer' metal-type bands i enjoy these days. Great Debut! Black!!!!!!!!! This is not thier best album. That would be Home which is their second full length album. However it does have thier best song on it. Black is the best song of thiers because of the heavy bass in that song. It is the song that got me in to Sevendust. You have to listen to this song on a stereo with your bass cranked up as high as it will go. Fantastic!!! Submitted by Clint (Aurora, NE, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
A solid debut Probably their worst effort but simply a good solid album.

Before "Angel's Son" This is Sevendust's heaviest album. This Cd is awsome. There may be some little songs that aren't headbanger's kind ,but still well put together. Lajon yells alot on this album. Submitted by spixeheavymetal (Cottonwood, AZ, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
why you should buy this album so, I have owned this album since its release in '97, but havent reviewed it until now, which is WAY overdue, because it is one of my all time favorite albums. I heard these guys back when they were still called Crawlspace, and loved their sound, so when I heard they changed their name, I watched out for this album. Wow! It just blew me away how extremely cool and refreshing their sound was. I listened to this album so many times over the years, and I can still enjoy it just as much now. Sevendust's other albums are great, but none have amazed me as much as this one. Submitted by a reviewer (knoxville, IA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Purchase Sevendust CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Metallica CD (1991)
Sevendust album
$15.65 When a genre-defining group like Metallica, whose past albums have rocked the charts with virtually no airplay, enlists the aid of a hit-making producer like Bob Rock, the result is bound to be monumental. METALLICA, their sixth studio release, surpasses all expectations.
METALLICA is an extremely heavy album. It carries a presence, a huge, live sound different from that heard on their previous recordings. What once could not be tamed has been refined, resulting in a fuller, more powerful guitar sound in an already guitar-intensive band. They have evolved from the messy, unabashed thrashers of their youth into a more confident, poised and angry bunch, not only retaining their fire but stoking it into a chunky, tight-fisted maelstrom of scowling energy.
Serious riffs provide punch and punctuation for James Hetfield's gruff vocals which rage against society and religion, and revel in suspicion and sarcasm. METALLICA is full of songs just as potent as the hugely popular "Enter Sandman," yet is not as complicated as their recent albums have seemed. "Sad But True," which is just as low down and dirty as anything labeled "grunge," exemplifies the poise of the metal band that can foresee the punchlines to their riffs and has the patience to wait for them.
Recorded at One On One Recording, Los Angeles, California between October 1990 and June 1991.
Metallica: James Hetfield (vocals, guitar); Kirk Hammett (guitar); Jason Newstead (bass); Lars Ulrich (drums).
| | Creed My Own Prison CD (1997)
Sevendust CD music
$7.59 The music of Creed was born out of the strife and tumult of singer Scott Stapp's personal life. He turned down a university scholarship and left home at 17, estranging himself from his parents, whose strict religious mindset he had been at odds with for years. Eventually, he hit bottom, living in a car and scribbling down the ideas that became the lyrics to Creed songs. The mainstream success of MY OWN PRISON has taken Stapp and his fellow Floridians in Creed a long way from dumpster-diving.
The band's combination of spiritually-oriented lyrics and guitar-based post-Nirvana hard rock connected in a big way with rock radio and with their vast, rabid following. MY OWN PRISON reflects the band's belief in the redemptive power of both God and rock and roll. On such tunes as "In America," "What's This Life For" and "Pity For A Dime" the band expresses both sociopolitical and spiritual concerns while leaving plenty of room for world-class headbanging riffs.
Recorded at The Kitchen Studio, Tallahassee, Florida and Criteria Studios, Miami, Florida.
Creed: Mark Tremonti (vocals, guitar); Scott Stapp (vocals); Brian Marshall (bass); Scott Phillips (drums).
Additional personnel: John Kurzweg (keyboards).
| | Sevendust Seasons CD (2003) Bonus DVD
Sevendust music CDs
$14.29 Sevendust have toiled away for years, recording and touring as underdog soldiers while lesser hard-rock acts have achieved success with luck as opposed to raw talent. The Atlanta quintet's fourth studio release finds the band grooving harder, with less focus on machine-gun-syncopation and grinding, chugging riffs (a trademark of their earlier works).
SEASONS is arguably the band's crossover album, boasting huge choruses with killer hooks. Songwriting/producing guru Butch Walker (formerly of the Marvelous 3) has lent his magic touch to up-and-comers Injected and Bowling for Soup (the latter resulting in a Grammy nomination for "Girl All the Bad Guys Want"), and now puts his unmistakable stamp on album tracks "Enemy" and "Separate," as well as the title cut, which he co-wrote with the group. Much of the creative angst behind SEASONS seems to be driven by tragic personal losses that members of the band struggled with during production. This therapeutic expression delivers Sevendust's most heartfelt collection of songs to date.
With three gold records under their belt, over 1,000 live shows performed & millions of fans the world over, Sevendust returns with their most accomplished record to date, Seasons. Includes limited edition bonus DVD with exclusive interviews, studio & acoustic performances & exclusive bonus audio track. Digipak. TVT. 2003.
Includes a limited edition bonus DVD.
Recorded at Ruby Red Studios & Brannon Studios, Atlanta, Georgia.
Sevendust: Lajon Witherspoon (vocals); Clint Lowery (guitar, background vocals); John Connolly (guitar); Vince Hornsby (bass); Morgan Rose (drums, background vocals).

| | Limp Bizkit Three Dollar Bill, Y'All CD (1997)
Sevendust album
$11.29 THREE DOLLAR BILL, YALL$, mixes a funky rhythm section, screeching guitars, half rapped, half screamed vocals and noisy sound sculpting (courtesy of DJ Lethal of House Of Pain fame) into a stew that wastes no time simmering and heads straight for a rolling boil. Taking cues from Rage Against The Machine and buddies Korn, the band creates a nearly impenetrable wall of sound.
Singer Fred Durst obviously has some issues to work out, and he uses the band as an opportunity to vent. Whether he's railing against fake scenesters ("Counterfeit"), a gold-digging girlfriend ("Stuck") or his own insecurities ("Nobody Loves Me"), Durst makes his opinions known in no uncertain terms, and at the top of his lungs to boot. Throw in a cover of George Michael's "Faith" and you've got a killer CD.
Recorded at Indigo Ranch Studio, Malibu, California.
Audio Mixers: Andy Wallace; Steve Sisco.
Recording information: Indigo Ranch Studio Malibu, CA.
Limp Bizkit: Fred Durst (vocals); Wes Borland (guitar); Sam Rivers (bass); John Otto (drums); DJ Lethal (DJ).

| | Sevendust Animosity CD (2001)
Sevendust CD music
$14.09 Hitting their stride on their third release, Georgia natives Sevendust learned to channel their aggressive emotion in a more streamlined fashion. The result is their strongest material to date. "Praise" is a radio-friendly track that stands above the nu-metal pack. "Trust" and "Crucified," both brutal and melodic, are vehicles for vocalist Lajon Witherspoon's expanded range. Producer Ben Grosse (Fuel, Filter) brings out the maximum amount of impact from the powerful quintet. The somber "Xmas Day" and "Shine" are both standouts, and show that while the band has matured, they are still metal to the bone. You'll want to turn up the bass on the bottom-heavy crunchers "Damaged" and "Beautiful." After working out their kinks and becoming a tighter unit via massive touring, Sevendust seems ready to lead the heavy music brigade.
For the first time in the life of the band, Sevendust (TVT Records) have had time to write and create their songs at home, not in between tour dates as they have in the past. With this new, found freedom, the band wrote 13 mind blowing, beautifully-crafted hard rock classics.
