| | Naughty By Nature 19 Naughty III CD Naughty By Nature Discography of CDs
Following on the heel's of 1991's self-titled smash, Naughty by Nature found themselves pressured to make an album that would stand up to their previous work. 19 NAUGHTY III finds them making a valiant effort to do so, and achieving the near impossibl -striking gold twice. Where in `91 it was the ubiquitous anthem "O.P.P.," in '93 it was "Hip Hop Hooray." The album offers several stellar songs that bridge the gap between accessibility and street grit, all executed with a relaxed and seemingly effortless cool. Thanks to DJ Kay Gee's loose, head-bobbing beats, and the juxtaposition of Treach's smooth, melodic flow with Vin Rock's angry spitting makes the group a trio in the most vital sense, with each member pulling his own weight. Worthwhile guest appearances by Heavy D and their mentor, Queen Latifah, are peppered throughout this mostly excellent album.
Personnel: Naughty By Nature (rap); Dave Bellochio (keyboards); Yossi Fein (bass); 118th Street Posse, Ben Adler, Lynn M. Scott, Dream Hampton (background vocals).
Producers: S.I.D. Reynolds, Naughty By Nature.

The Source (4/93, pp.74-75) - 3.5 Stars - Good Plus - "...Naughty remains consistent to the underground-but-accessible style they carved out for themselves....Naughty's base of fans--and that's a large base--shouldn't be disappointed..." 19 Naughty III Review

| | Naughty By Nature CD (1991)
19 Naughty III
$10.15 There was not a bigger, more contagious crossover radio smash in the autumn of 1991 than Naughty by Nature's "O.P.P.," a song that somehow managed the trick of being both audaciously catchy and subversively coy at the same time. Its irrepressible appeal -- the Jackson 5 sample, the saucy subject matter, the huge anthemic chorus, Treach's phat rat-a-tat flow -- was so widespread, in fact, that it played just as well to the hardcore heads in the hood as it did to the hip-hop dabblers in the suburbs. The beauty of the trio's self-titled full-length debut is that it is every bit as musically accomplished, and every bit as ghetto fabulous, in its entirety as that watershed first single. Naughty by Nature is both a pop and a rap classic that chews up stylistic real estate by the block, easily shifting from an ...

Jay-Z released REASONABLE DOUBT, his solo debut, in 1996. Only four years later, he dropped his fifth album, THE DYNASTY. Matching his unique off-beat delivery with hip-hop's most impressive lyrics, the Brooklyn-native reinforces the idea that he is one of rap's most profound MCs. Once again, Jay-Z shows us he knows about ...
