Until the tail end of the 20th century, sports and pop music were mutually exclusive, but once the public (and the sports and music industries) discovered the invigorating effect of playing rhythmic, dance-oriented pop tunes at sporting events, compilations like JOCK JAMS began to proliferate. The fact this is volume four of the JOCK JAMS series gives you some idea of how popular they've proven to be. This album pretty much picks up where the previous ones left off, full of frenetic, propulsive dance, hip-hop and R&B tunes, all designed to get listeners pumped up for either participating in or watching a sporting event. Both new and not-so-new tunes are thrown into the mix, from the Irish rap of House of Pain ("Jump") to the dance-pop of Chumbawamba (their breakthrough hit "Tubthumping").
