Dance Hits;Diana Ross,Chic, Rose Royce,Sylvester,Edwin Sta
Producers include: Rich Pangilinan, George Calle, Harry Wayne Casey, Bob Parr. Compilation producers: Mark Christopher, Coati Mundi Hernandez, Susan Jacobs. Personnel: David Cabrera (guitar); Ed Calle, William Spencer, Dana Teboe, Jason Carder (horns); Bob Parr (bass guitar, programming); Fermin Goytisolo (percussion); Donna Allen, Diana Williams, Maria de Crescenzo (background vocals). Audio Mixers: Rich Pangilinan; George Calle; Michael Wagener. The first of two soundtracks to director Mark Christopher's ill-advised 54 is the stronger of the pair, with classics including Chic's "Dance Dance Dance (Yowsah Yowsah Yowsah)," Sylvester's "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)" and Amii Stewart's "Knock on Wood." Still, much like the film itself, the soundtrack fails to paint an accurate portrait of the disco era as it really was -- too many key records are absent, and too many of those that did make the cut simply don't capture the genre at its electrifying peak; viewers and listeners alike are instead directed to Whit Stillman's vastly superior The Last Days of Disco (and its accompanying soundtrack) for a real sense of what all the fuss was really about. ~ Jason Ankeny Seeing as Studio 54 was the epicenter of the disco movement, this soundtrack captures the height of this genre of music. Volume One opens with a new mix, "Studio 54" that showcases some of the tracks backed by quotes from the film. This disc continues to spin your mirror ball with "You Make Me Feel Mighty Real", the 1978 disco classic by Sylvester and "Young Hearts Run Free" by Candi Stanton. One can't help gyrating to "I Got My Mind Made Up" by Instant Funk and "Native New Yorker" by Odyssey. Guaranteed to incite a sense of hedonism, glamour and decadence, just like the hotspot it's named for.

54-Music From The Miramax Motion Picture-Vol. 1 Soundtrack
$9.69 Personnel: David Gates (vocals, guitar). Recording information: Elektra Sound recorders, Los Angeles, CA. Photographer: Frank Bez. No musicians are credited except for the associate producer title given to keyboard player Larry Knechtel and retaining Bread photographer, Frank Bez, as well as engineer Bruce Morgan, who played an important part in David Gates' First from 1973 (and who would engineer Bread's 1977 comeback, Lost Without Your Love ). The lead singer of the '70s very recognizable soft rock hit machine delivers his second solo disc, part of something a retailer once referred to as "breadcrumbs," the result of Bread's breakup. Certainly the solo recordings by James Griffin, Larry Knechtel, and Gates were nowhere as entertaining as the full band, but each time, that comes down to the material. This album sounds so much like another Bread album that there is no doubt who the main force was. Where First worked better the more Gates got away from the trademark music, his second solo album embraces the Bread formula wholeheartedly, "Playin' on My Guitar" could have been the B-side of any of the group's singles. "Greener Days" is up-tempo, not as hard as "Let Your Love Go," but singsongy ...
| | Jason Mraz We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things. CDs (2008) With DVD
54-Music From The Miramax Motion Picture-Vol. 1 Soundtrack
$21.29 Personnel: Andreas Olsson (programming). Audio Mixers: Chris Athens; Tommy Maserati; Tony Maserati; Adam Thompson. Arrangers: The Grooveline Horns; David Davidson . The third studio album by singer-songwriter Jason Mraz was originally released as three online-only four-track EPs throughout the spring of 2008, hence the odd punctuation of the album's full title: WE SING. WE DANCE. WE STEAL THINGS. Although it was originally made available in a piecemeal fashion, the entire 12-track album was recorded as a whole, and it flows naturally from the smooth pop-rock of the opener, "Make It Mine," to the extended jam workout of the closing, "Beautiful Mess." Guest spots by James Morrison on "Details in the Fabric" and Colbie Caillat on the flirty single "Lucky" are standouts, as is the shimmering first single, "I'm Yours." Overall, Mraz's tuneful songcraft is on display throughout the album. Obsessed with carnality as he is, it was only a matter of time before Jason Mraz realized that it's better to sound sexy than ...
