Audio Mixers: Vinny Nicoletti; Rob Paustian; Kieran Walsh; Tony Touch. DJ Touch has assembled an impressive list of guests (both rappers and fellow turntablists) on this sprawling disc of state of the art hip-hop. Too bad some of it is marred by homophobic proclamations and played-out clichés (how many more Scarface interludes can the hip-hop community tolerate?). Still, appearances by Gang Starr, Wu-Tang Clan, De la Soul, and Mos Def rise above the muck and elevate Touch's skills above the pedestrian paths they sometimes take. ~ Michael Gallucci Hip-hop icon Tony Touch has been a b-boy since the age of 15, and by 1991 his mix tapes had won him international fame. On THE PIECE MAKER, his first commercial mix tape, the turnout of artists collaborating with Touch is a tribute to his skills and the respect he commands within the hip-hop community. Tracks like "Basics," from Prodigy of Mobb Deep, "The Abduction," from GZA, RZA, Masta Killah, Inspectah Deck & Ghostface Killah, and "Pit Fight," including Greg Nice & Psycho Les of the Beatnuts, are instant street classics. The old-school "Class of '87" features Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap & KRS-One, while other guest MC's include Eminem ("Get Back"), D.I.T.C ("The Club"), Gang Star ("The Piece Maker"), and Flipmode Squad ("Set It on Fire"). Touch uses his mix skills to make THE PIECE MAKER one of the better mix/compilation albums to come out in a while.

Piece Maker Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Hip-Hop 4ever the fist album, where all tracks are cool!!! a great album Submitted by daniel_at_work2 (Leipzig, Germany) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
The Best One of the best CDs I've heard. Tony really puts it down and shows what REAL hip hop from a Boricua sounds like! Submitted by dcaban1 (Miami, FL, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
THIS IS SOME NYC STYLE This mix tape shows the real NYC style, aunque it has some west coast artists, Tony le pone las pistas jus for them and they sound really great. This is nothing commercial, so if you're looking for some underground NYC rap here it is. Submitted by grandmasterdiego (MEDELLÍN, COLOMBIA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
One of the best mix tape albums - ever. What is there to say about an album featuring the latest "freestyles" from the best in the rap game? This is album is killer and a must have for those who love rap music.
The album is a very "east coast" heavy with great submissions from De La Soul, Mos Def, KRS-One, Big Pun and GangStarr. But the "west coast" is VERY represented by appearances from Cypress Hill, The Liks, Xzibit and Defari. There is even an early appearance from D-12 (feat. Eminem) before their first album was released.
This album is worth every penny for the simple fact that Big Daddy Kane and KRS-One flow on the same song, The Class of '87. That has NEVER happened before (excluding the many-emcee Self Destruction single). My personal favorite is What's That? (Que Eso?) featuring Mos Def and De La Soul. De La Soul continues to prove that they are some of the best rappers to ever lay it down on wax. And Mos Def continues to let everyone know that he is a force to reckon with.
This album is great and should not be missed. Submitted by a reviewer (New York, NY) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
TOCA: FROM A MIX TAPE KING TO A MASTER 'PIECE MAKER' This album is a must not just for Hip Hop fans, but for fans of popular music in general. It is hands down the tightest mix-dj album ever put together. It is also one of the best Hip Hop albums in recent memory. The Piece Maker should be considered for 'Album of the Year' on any level. Tony Touch is more than a great dj, an excellent producer, a solid emcee. He is a charismatic artist who has the ability to bring worlds together, merely on the strength of respect which his name commands throughout the industry. The album is full of Hip Hop superstars (big name emcees and top producers) - past and present. Big Daddy Kane (back in his original form), Kool G Rapp, and KRS ONE on the same track for the first time - killing it. The album also features several other DJ's, from Kid Capri and Doo Wop on the mic to Premiere, De La's Maseo and others contributing on the production tip. Most Def rhyming in Spanish. Plus Big Pun, Woo Tang, Eminem, the Flipmode Squad (with Busta Rhymes and Rah Digga), Heltah, Skeltah, Gang Starr, Cypress Hill, Xibit, Total, Mobb Deep, Beatnuts, De La Soul, DITC, among others. The production is entirely superb and the tracks appropriately cover the underground, club and mainstream. The album is true to Hip Hop, and yet fun enough to be enjoyed by any listener - from start to finish. Throw in a few brief yet really funny skits. Tony Touch: a definite Master 'Piece Maker'.

Among the flurry of Cash Money releases during the late '90s, 400 Degreez certainly stands out, and not just as Juvenile's shining moment but also as the album that forced everyone to suddenly take this Dirty South collective very seriously.
