In the studio, Brand X were experimental and intriguing. Live performance, however, was where they really stretched out. Featured in these performances are dueling drummers Phil Collins and Kenwood Dennard, and percussionist Morris Pert. The power generated by this percussive onslaught is tremendous as keyboardist Robin Lumley, guitarist John Goodsall, and fretless bassist Percy Jones dive into the group's legendarily complex arrangements. Throughout, whether they're weaving mesmerizing esoteric grooves or hammering out odd-time acrobatics, Brand X deliver intense performances that convey the true promise of the fusion movement.
The famous London jazz club Ronnie Scott's is known for featuring some of the top jazz names in history. In September 1976, the unconventional British fusion band Brand X, then swollen to a sextet, brought their signature eclectic instrumental music to the venue for some typically adventurous performances. LIVESTOCK features some of these performances, along with shows recorded at the equally famous British rock venues the Hammersmith Odeon and the Marquee Club a year later.
Brand X: John Goodsall (guitar); Robin Lumley (keyboards); Percy Jones (bass); Kenwood Dennard, Phil Collins (drums); Morris Pert (percussion).

Livestock music CDs
$6.79 Guitarist John McLaughlin was in on the birth of jazz-rock fusion, having played with both Miles Davis and Tony Williams' Lifetime in the early '70s. McLaughlin applied what he'd learned from these artists to his own pioneering fusion band, the Mahavishnu Orchestra. This second effort is the Orchestra's definitive recording. The tempestuous ...

| | Brand X Trilogy CDs (2003)
Livestock album
$24.69 Trilogy contains a live bonus disc recorded in 1979 and two previously released studio albums.
Christmas came early for fans of this fabled progressive jazz-rock band. Issued in June 2003, this three-CD (hence the Trilogy title) set includes re-releases of Manifest Destiny and Xcommunication, both of which were out of print until this time frame. These sessions depict guitarist John Goodsall, bassist Percy Jones, vibist Marc Wagnon (Manifest Destiny only), and drummer Frank Katz at the top of their game. Here, the listener will receive strong doses of the musicians' ferocious chops, amid pieces tinged with whispery melodies and difficult-to-navigate time signatures. But the real surprise emanates from disc three, which is a previously unreleased live date recorded in New York ...
| | Danny Kirwan Second Chapter CD (1975) With Book; Limited Edition; Digipak
Livestock CD music
$19.79 The first solo album from Fleetwood Mac singer/songwriter Daniel David Kirwan has the future producer for Human League and Buzzcocks, Martin Rushent, utilizing those skills here, as well as engineering. The sound is crystal clear, and a feather in the cap for Rushent as well as Kirwan. It starts off with an uncharacteristic "Ram Jam City," which has more Lindsey Buckingham sounds than one would expect, especially since the two guitarists come from two different musical worlds. "Odds and Ends" is more lighthearted, the kind of music Paul McCartney toyed with on The White Album's ...

| | American Steel Dear Friends And Gentle Hearts CD (2009)
Livestock music CDs
$8.65 American Steel's second album for Fat Wreck Chords as a reunited band shows the group continuing to evolve from its rambunctious punk-ska foundations into a more focused, muscular pop group. DEAR FRIENDS AND GENTLE HEARTS is less punk, and more analogous to AMERICAN IDIOT-era Green Day, with big melodies substituted for the breakneck speed of the combo's early years. The touching sunshine vocal rounds of "Meals & Entertainment" show that PET SOUNDSio has replaced INFLAMMABLE MATERIAL on their inspirational turntable. ...
