(6 Customer Reviews)
This 1991 reissue of ROCK FOR LIGHT contains three tracks that weren't on the original LP.
Digitally remastered by George Marino (Sterling Sound, New York, New York).
In the early-'80s, the Bad Brains recorded many of the same songs at several different sessions, resulting in such releases as 1982's BAD BRAINS and ROCK FOR LIGHT, 1996's BLACK DOTS, and 1997's OMEGA SESSIONS. ROCK FOR LIGHT is made up of songs produced by Cars leader Ric Ocasek, but unlike the sound of his slick, chart-topping new-wave band, Ocasek wisely kept the production on ROCK FOR LIGHT raw and in-your-face. While such hardcore classics as "Attitude," "Right Brigade," "Banned in D.C.," "Supertouch," "I," "Coptic Times," "Sailin' On," and "At the Movies" would be included as different versions on the aforementioned collections, ROCK FOR LIGHT features rare studio takes of such favorites as "I and I Survive," "The Meek," and the title track.

One of the greatest punk rock albums ever made... ...gets a weak rerelease! The mixing is poor, the voice sounds like Donald Duck's singing, the music runs much faster than on the original recordings. I couldn't give less than three stars bevause nevertheless "Rock For Light" has been one of the most influental hardcore albums (besides Black Flag's "Damaged") of the early 80s.:: Submitted by mujahed (Baghdad, Iraq) Was This Review Helpful? hardcore!! one of the best hardcore album ever, together with Minor Threat's "Out of step".
Sometimes nature generates unique creatures: four rastamen playing furious hardcore named Bad Brains is an example.

If u've never seen them live, this sheer energy record pretty close. With it's Blitz speed pulse driving force that takes an occasional reggea rest energy
drink,This effort 'Rocks Maddness! Reminding me of an old black gospel church worship service with distorted guitars. Each song sores with wings, launching energy
Bombs at anyone that's sitting down.Anthem chants like "Destroy Babylon"
will strike even the most timid of listeners. And classics like" FVK" and "Attitude"sound even more menacing than they did on the recording prior to this one. This album was not only (well) pollished It Rocked !. The Brains were definately one of the bands that took (hardcore) punk into places that it hadnt gone . And this very album was one of many that totally changed not only the history of hardcore but
also help give birth to the term thrash -in a real since as well. You can hear the soul,
blood, sweat, and tears put into this album.

$10.39 Depending on your age, you might say that MEST sounds like Green Day, or like Black Flag, or like the Clash. But it's really all the same; this is punk rock, with its rapid tempos, simple, guitar-dominated arrangements, and boundless energy, in this case played by a youthful band from Chicago. Notwithstanding that American origin, lead singer Tony Lovato's singing sometimes recalls Billy Bragg, though the real model is Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong. Unlike such predecessors as Bragg and the Clash, however, MEST has no political agenda, and its only real social criticism ...

$31.45 This album by the Swedish metal group Dream Evil includes "Chasing the Dragon," "In Flames You Burn," and "Kingdom of the Doomed."
Sweden has produced yet another melodic heavy metal band rooted in classic '80s influences. Dream Evil (taking its name from the Dio album of the same name?) plays the type of soaring, melodramatic heavy metal that combines the progressive metal chops of Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force with the accessibility of pop-metallers Europe. As for the lyrics, a scan of the song titles tells all; tunes like ...

In 1977, the German label Hansa held a contest that elicited entries from over 1000 bands. The eight winners, including Japan (and an unknown group called the Easy Cure who later became the Cure) received recording contracts and, a year later, ADOLESCENT SEX hit the shops. Perhaps because of its glamrock-esque cover art (this at the height of the first wave of English punk rock), it was largely ignored.
The band's vocalist David Sylvian is legendarily unhappy with the record, and it is possible to guess why: it contains some fairly misguided lyrics--especially on "Wish You Were Black." The album probably seemed pretty edgy and ...
