Beyond Recall CD music It is thematically similar to its predecessor insomuch as Schulze continues to get broad mileage out of myriad bell-like sounds, percolating, metronomic sequencers, and all manners of mysterious electronics. But BEYOND RECALL dazzles the ear much more brightly. "Airlift," a cheeky refrain of Schulze's early classic IRRLICHT, is spruced up for the roaring '90s with great billows of pleasant noise arrested by budding rhythms and invasive beats. This is actually the centerpiece of a record already boasting several tracks that cross the 15-minute mark. Schulze is nothing if not epic-minded. In fact, he is one of the last of the classic Teutonic synthesists who allows his ideas the room to grow, breathe, and breed--possibly the reason why he has found such a kindred spirit in his contemporary, Peter Namlook. The truth be told, Schulze continues to be criminally ignored amongst the electronic congnoscenti, and despite something of a sea-change in that attitude, remains an "underground" figure to most Westerners.
