Mike Oldfield Heaven's Open Songs Heaven's Open Music Review Average Rating: (3.3 out of 5 stars) Worth the money Mike oldfield really dissapointed me at Platinum and QE2. Ever since then, it's all been a few short pop songs with one long one, I only ever brought his following albums for the longer and instrutmenal tracks ofcourse. This album was no exception! After the very pleasently suprising turn around, Amarok, Mike just went back to what his been doing, I only brought this album for songs of the balcony and that one alone stands out and is worth all the money you spend on it. I give it 5 stars alone for that one track. Submitted by ross_mcnally (Sydney, NSW, Aust.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Needs several listenings Don't forget this album is a compromise for Mike, very fustrated by Virgin's pressure for more commercial songs, and Mike's creativity.
True Mike also had his mind on the coming Tubular Bells II, but also on the masterpiece Amarok, which both came out the next 2 years.
It's obvious when you see there are 5 songs (all very good though rather conventional) and the very bizarre instrumental Music From the Balcony. Submitted by asimov20 (montreal, Quebec) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Timeless pop sounds from '91 There's no need to say that this album is much different then others from him, because this artist has lots of styles. This style represents the end of his contract with Virgin Records. The songs are sung by Mike, have a lot of feeling inside of them and are not time-stamped early '90 but are even these days fairly enjoyable.
Music from the Balcony is an experimental instrumental track which is quite uncommon on such albums but not on Mike's. The track features strange sounds and hidden rhythms and is a bit complicated to enjoy it immediately, but after ten times listening it you see much more in it.
Heaven's Open is not his opus, but Mike did not make it for that purpose: He just couldn't wait to compose Tubular Bells II one year later for Warner Music and with a brand new contract with more liberties then he used to had. So Heaven's Open will forever be in the shadow of that great album, but we shouldn't forget this one. Submitted by ralphitz (Breda, The Netherlands) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Mike Oldfield Earth Moving CD (1989)
Heaven's Open CD music
$11.65 Earth Moving was one of the last installments in Mike Oldfield's series of pop experiments, and the record does sound as if the musician was running out of patience with the genre. Many listeners have written off this period, but there were interesting moments that passionate fans still appreciate. Oldfield commits completely to the pop/rock format on Earth Moving by excluding the kind of long intro piece that he often used to kick off other '80s recordings. Instead, the composer puts a sprawling but focused (by Oldfield standards) eight-minute number, "Nothing But/Bridge to Paradise," ...
| | Allman Brothers Band Dreams CDs (1989) Box Set
Heaven's Open music CDs
$38.09 DREAMS is a 4-CD box set compiling in chronological order tracks by the Allman Brothers Band, as well as tracks by bands featuring one or more member of the Allman Brothers Band and solo performances by Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts.
Recorded between 1966 & 1988. Includes a 32-page illustrated booklet and liner notes by John Swenson.
Like nearly all box sets, DREAMS has plenty to recommend it-and a few nagging drawbacks. The set's chief shortcoming is its two conflicting goals: providing an overview of the Allmans' history, thus attracting buyers seeking the ultimate hits package, and including enough unreleased tracks and rarities to appeal to the band's most devoted fans. ...
| | Poco Forgotten Trail (1969-74) CDs (1990)
Heaven's Open songs
$15.95 This compilation contains 38 songs, including many new remixes from original master tapes, 6 previously unreleased songs, alternate versions of 3 others, and a comprehensive 36 page booklet, with historic liner notes and photos.
This excellent two-disc collection captures Poco's finest moments from the days when they were laying down the template for all the country-rock music that was to follow. It's hard to remember, but when the Eagles first hit the scene, they were thought by many to be a Poco-wannabe band. Listen to this set and you'll hear why. The Forgotten Trail (1969-1974) culls tracks from Poco's first eight albums, as well as unreleased cuts and singles. From the classic anthem "Pickin' Up the Pieces," which kicks things off, through "You Better Think Twice," "C'mon," "Kind Woman," "From the Inside," "A Good Feelin' to Know," "Crazy Eyes," and on and on, this is wonderful music, ahead ...
| | Mike Bloomfield Super Session CD (1968) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Heaven's Open album
$6.75 A surprise best-seller when it was first released, this mostly improvised pairing of singer/keyboardist/producer Al Kooper with two major guitar heroes of the day sounds fascinating all these years later precisely because of the distance of time--nobody makes records like this any more. The material runs the gamut from folk pop (covers of Donovan and Dylan), to blues ("Albert's Shuffle," "You Don't Love Me"), to heady jams ("His Holy Modal Majesty"), to big-band jazz ("Harvey's ...

Heaven's Open music CDs
$10.49 Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark: Paul Humphreys, Andy McCluskey (synthesizer).
This compilation features many favorites from electro-rockers OMD.
Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys make up Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, who were responsible for some of the catchiest and brightest synth pop that the '80s had to offer. O.M.D.'s material was a step above other keyboard pop music of the time, thanks to the combination of intelligently crafted hooks and colorful rhythms that bounced and jittered with pristine charm. Their squeaky-clean brilliancy ...
