Lower East Side music CDs
$10.69 Was sorry to hear of the death of singer RAYBEEZ in September (of some kind of illness, not sure which). This New York fixture was regarded as the nicest skinhead in New York (a living contrast to the unfair stereotype of the violent or neo-Nazi skin) as a longtime security man at local theaters like The Ritz and frontman for this group. He always practiced what he preached in Warzone, whose music from beginning to this (presumed) end was always in the '81-'84 original Dischord hardcore thrash sound (Minor Threat, S.O.A., Scream, Youth Brigade, GIs, etc.), all bands Ray supported in those older days. The sound on this last work is particularly crisp since it's produced by BAD BRAINS' guitarist DR. KNOW (just before the original lineup of Bad Brains reformed recently and began recording themselves), and the title track here is truly convincing punk as well. "Drug Free" exalts Raybeez in "Countdown," ...

| | Gorilla Biscuits Start Today CD (1989) Bonus Tracks; Reissue
Lower East Side CD music
$11.55 Vying with Minor Threat for the title of "The Godfathers of Hardcore" are Gorilla Biscuits, and Start Today is the record that demonstrates their merits. Presented with both humor and energy, this is the record that proved straightedge kids knew how to have a good time, and that they had some pretty good musical ideas as well. Focusing on the hyper rants of lead singer CIV and pushed ...
| | King Diamond Abigail CD (1987) Remastered
Lower East Side music CDs
$14.99 Digitally remastered by Chris Gehringer (The Hit Factory, New York, New York).
Widely recognized as King Diamond's solo masterpiece, Abigail is also unquestionably one of heavy metal's greatest concept albums. A passion for dark-themed theatrics had always qualified the work of the man formerly known as Kim Bendix Petersen before this release, and yet his band's debut from two years prior had merely hinted at the conceptual ambitions yet to come. So turn out the houselights, draw the curtains, and listen closely as King Diamond's synthetically altered voice introduces us to the witch Abigail La'Fey (in an obvious tribute to Anton LaVey, founder of the Church of Satan) through -- fittingly enough -- her "Funeral." Moments later, proper musical opener "Arrival" introduces the familiar post-metal, semi-thrashing style over which Diamond will narrate his spine-tingling tale of horror, a tale which, in the process, conjures such career-topping compositions as the stunning "A Mansion in Darkness," the surprisingly clever "The Family Ghost," and the quite beautiful ...

| | Third Wish Granted Fountain Of Euthanasia CD (2005)
Lower East Side album
$16.45 A Third Wish Granted is one of Los Angeles' premier professional rock bands since 2001. Their sound is in the vein of Queen & Foo Fighters with an Arabian flavor. Upon reviewing a track from their third album "The Lost Art of Conversation Vol. 1", Lelionencolere from GarageBand.com described the power-trio as "top notch in all depths ... with the vocals [being] remarkable. Incredible vocal, incredible control."The band's unique formation is a focus on dynamics and unique and fitting arrangements to their catchy and edgy tunes. Their radio-ready recordings are complimented with their professional live performances. They frequently rock the stage at the world-famous Viper Room on Sunset Blvd and have a loyal and supportive fanbase.A Third Wish Granted's formation of their captivating sound was attained thanks to their varied beginnings. Frontman and bassist Emo Alaeddin lends his duties as vocalist and co-writer for the group. Alaeddin was raised in the middle-east and was exposed mostly to traditional and pop Arabic music. The traditional chants and vocalises are reminisced in his melodies, harmonies, and intonations. In 1992, the vocals of the late Layne Staley gave Emo the realization ...
