(1 Customer Review)
1997's five-track OMEGA SESSIONS EP is a good choice for a short introduction to the Bad Brains' early, influential hardcore/ska direction. Although the songs were recorded 17 years prior to this official release, time has not dulled the intensity of these performances in the slightest. Such early hardcore classics as "At the Movies" and "Attitude" are featured, as are the cool ska sounds of "I Luv I Jah" and the raging "I Against I"--which would later serve as the title track of the Bad Brains' exceptional 1986 album.

| | Jimi Hendrix Are You Experienced? CD (1967)
Omega Sessions songs
$9.55 This 1997 reissue of ARE YOU EXPERIENCED? is a remastered version that restores the original LP's track order and album artwork. ARE YOU EXPERIENCED? was previously reissued in 1993 (MCA 10893) with new cover art and a new 17-track running order that included all the songs on either the U.S. or U.K. versions of the original LP. That version is now out of print, and has been replaced by this one, on the Experience Hendrix label, which features remastered versions of the same 17 songs, this time in the order they appeared on the original American LP, with the extra tracks added to the end (a separate version was simultaneously released in the U.K., featuring the same songs but in the original British track order). The Experience Hendrix label is controlled by Hendrix's family.
The 1997 reissue also adds a 24-page booklet with previously-unpublished photos, the original LP liner notes and song ...
| | Weirdos Weird World, Vol. 1 CD (1991)
Omega Sessions album
$9.89 It's rather ironic that while Los Angeles was the capitol of the American recording industry in the mid-to-late '70s, most of the seminal bands of the original New York punk rock scene (the Ramones, Television, Patti Smith, Talking Heads) were able to score major-label contracts, but nearly all of their West Coast contemporaries were ignored, having to rely on fledgling independent labels like Dangerhouse or What? if they wanted to be heard on plastic. Consequently, several important bands, such as Crime and the Screamers, managed to slip through the cracks without ever releasing a proper album, and the Weirdos, who were one of the first major bands to emerge from the L.A. punk underground, broke up in 1981 without making an LP. (They did reunite for a spell in the 1990s, recording an album called Condor with the help of friend and fan Flea.) ...

| | Solomon Burke Definition Of Soul CD (1997)
Omega Sessions music CDs
$9.79 On this comeback effort, the 60-ish soul giant has his son Selassie alongside him in the producer's chair, and it finds him putting a '90s spin on his classic sound. DEFINITION OF SOUL ranges from contemporary R&B a la Peabo Bryson to a seven-minute dance track ("Sweet Spirit"). Burke easily shifts from the seductive, Barry White-inspired croon of "Use Me, But Leave My Mind Alone" to a raucous duet with Little Richard on the slickly-produced "Everybody's Got A Game."
Gritty soul remains Burke's forte, and he proves it every chance he gets. "You're The One," a strolling ballad juiced along by Holmes Brothers-like harmonies, finds him bouncing between a sweet tenor and a growl. Longtime producer Jerry Wexler came out of retirement to oversee "Your Turn To Cry," and it's another classic you can add to the Solomon Burke canon.
Engineers: Rene Van Verseveld, Reggie Toussaint.
Personnel: Solomon Burke (vocals); Little Richard (vocals); Eill Ray, Sam Mayfield, Mark ...

| | Gang Wizard Byzantine Headache CD (2006)
Omega Sessions music CDs
$12.95 Having released any number of CDs, vinyl records, and tapes over the past few years, Gang Wizard doubtless regard their Load Records debut as yet a further chance to get their own skew-whiff version of reality out there to a wondering public. And why not? But one of the enjoyable things about Byzantine Headache -- above and beyond the absolutely hilarious Crass knockoff album cover art -- is how it begins ...
