| | Catch 22 Alone In A Crowd CD Catch 22 Discography of CDs
If anything sets Catch 22 apart from the myriad other ska-punk ensembles, it's the scorching guitar of Pat Calpin, which transforms Alone in a Crowd from simply another quirky dance record to something bordering arena-sized hard rock. The songs themselves are typically angst-ridden affairs, although "San Francisco Payphone" and the aptly titled "Wreck of the Sloop John B" mix things up enough to keep the listener interested. ~ Jim Smith

Alone In A Crowd CD music
$11.65 EVERCLEAR, AMC's finest hour and one the '90s' most powerful albums, is simultaneously lush and searing, heartache and despair borne out in elegant arrangements that combine fragile prettiness and soul-baring howls of pain. Multi-instrumentalist Bruce Kaphan rose to the occasion of his production debut. The canyons of reverb on the instruments are strangely appropriate, highlighting the almost decadent, tragically beautiful feel of the songs. Keyboards, pedal steel, and acoustic guitars drift like abandoned ships swirling around in a colorfully tempestuous sea full of unknown nautical demons. Guitarist Vudi contributes some of the most artful, non-traditional sounds ever concocted by a "rock" axeman.
The album begins with a slow, ...

Alone In A Crowd CD music
$15.25 Truth be told, the Trembling Blue Stars routine was getting kind of stale by the release of Seven Autumn Flowers in 2004. With that album they crossed the line that divides reliable and predictable; no longer did the morose lyrics, melancholy vocals, minor chords and cheesy synths make a positive impression. Luckily for fans of the band, The Last Holy Writer is a comeback of sorts, certainly an improvement, and maybe even one of their finest records. How did they do it? It's hard to say because on the surface it seems like not much has changed sound or mood-wise. There's still a preponderance of downbeat lyrics and Bob Wratten hasn't suddenly traded in his mope for a smile, no fear of that anytime soon. The building blocks of their sound are mostly the same too. What makes a difference here is a boost in the overall energy level from unrelenting gloom to mostly sad, a slightly expanded sonic palette that makes room for field recordings and a wider range of drum sounds, and most ...

Alone In A Crowd music CDs
$8.65 One of the first Jamaican artists to achieve international success, Jimmy Cliff started his career in the early 1960s as something of a local child prodigy. This volume of THIS IS CRUCIAL REGGAE is revealing in its juxtapositions of both earlier and later periods of Cliff's career. For example, the socially conscious "Wonderful World, Beautiful People," displaying Cliff's rapidly maturing songwriting ...

Alone In A Crowd songs
$9.39 Toni Braxton won the 1994 Grammy Award for Best New Artist, and "Another Sad Love Song" won the 1994 Grammy for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.
"Breathe Again" won the 1995 Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. "You Mean The World To Me" was nominated for Best R&B Song in 1995.
"I Belong To You" was nominated for a 1996 Grammy for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.
TONI BRAXTON is a smashing debut. One of the best vocalists to break through the glut of R&B divas, the sultry Braxton gives the pretenders to the diva throne cause to re-evaluate their careers. It's going to be hard to compete against this stylist.
Concrete songwriting also helps the album rise above the others. Songs like "Another Sad Love Song" and "Seven Whole Days" are perfect vehicles for her dynamic vocal gymnastics, while the subdued ballad "Best Friend" comes to a slow boil, after simmering for 4 and 1/2 minutes.
Braxton's unique voice combined with original, impossible-to-label songs like the sexy standout "Breathe Again" show what magic first-rate producers like L.A. Reid and Babyface can do with an extraordinary singer. The proof is in the sales and the awards generated from this album; Braxton won the coveted 1994 Grammy Award for "Best New Artist."
Braxton caresses her lyrics with jazzy, Anita Baker-ish embellishments, slurred phrasing, breathy come-ons, and leaping octaves. She swings, sways, wails and wallops her way through this outstanding showcase.
