| | Les Savy Fav Emor: Rome Upside Down CD Les Savy Fav Discography of CDs
A follow up EP to their second album, THE CAT AND THE COBRA, EMOR finds the Brooklyn art rock quintet (turned quartet) in the middle of a lineup change. Minus one guitar, Les Savy Fav have replaced the full dual chord harmonies with synth stylings. Jumping on the electronic train, tinkling keyboards pack the space left usually left for layers of angular guitar lines.
In the style of '70s progressive rock, odd spacey sounds interlace the fuzzy, metallic guitar and bass strains. Add some solid Gang of Four-esque bounding basslines and rhythms and some Six Finger Satellite artful noise, and these boys still kick out the emotionally adroit jams. The title track showcases all these characteristics, with bleeping electronics and disjointed chords supported by clear, sometimes vocoder-treated vocals.

CMJ (7/10/00, p.23) - "...The taut, jittery, discordant songs have the same nervous energy as the band's previous works....[with] the Fav's great rhythm section driving the songs with more authority..." Emor: Rome Upside Down Music Emor: Rome Upside Down Review

Emor: Rome Upside Down album

| | Les Savy Fav Go Forth CD (2001)
Emor: Rome Upside Down CD music
$10.45 A few albums into their career, Les Savy Fav continue refining their idiosyncrasies and coming to realize their trademark sound. Past albums were often eclectic in terms of style, the band not sure if it wanted to head in more of a punk or emo direction -- or perhaps a hybrid of the two. If anything though, Go Forth is consistent in terms of style. Les Savy Fav have come to terms with who they want to be and explore that identity over the course of the album's 11 songs, which are similar in tone yet different in approach. There's a particular irony with their music, though. On the ...

Emerging sometime in the '80s, Oklahoma boys The Flaming Lips have held steady to a peripheral, but significant location in the indie-rock world, visionaries blessed with a hyper-keen pop sensibility. Emor: Rome Upside Down songs
$9.95 To make music marked distinctly of a specific period that's somehow so compelling as to be timeless is no mean feat. Interpol initially sounds as if they must have been roaming about Manchester as the 1970s screamed to a close, yet they emerged across the ocean in New York City some two decades-plus later. Combining the ...
| | Les Savy Fav Inches CD (2004)
Emor: Rome Upside Down album
$10.69 Initial pressings of INCHES contain a bonus DVD featuring videos, live footage, pictures and audio commentary.
The culmination of a project eight years in the making, Les Savy Fav's Inches gathers nine singles -- 18 tracks in all -- that the band began recording in 1996 and then released through nine different labels (including Sub Pop, Monitor, and Suicide Squeeze). Inches presents these singles in reverse chronological order, a clever and somewhat daring move; as the album plays, the band's sound unravels from the sleek, danceable art-punk of songs like "Meet Me in the Dollar Bin" to the rougher sounds of "Bringing Us Down" and "Reprobates Resume." But while "Hold Onto Your Genre" and "Hello Halo, Goodbye Glands" are more refined ...
