Complete Recorded Works In Chronological Order, Volume 2: 1935-'51.
$14.99 The third volume in the Classics complete chronological recordings of Lowell Fulson presents a series of records he made for the Down Beat label in San Francisco and Los Angeles during 1948 and 1949, some of these sounding at times like rehearsal rather than master takes. The first eight tracks find Fulson in the company of a very jazzy rhythm section including bassist Arthur Robinson and Rufus J. Russell, a pianist who had made records with blues shouter Big Joe Turner. Why this take of "Highway 99" was released is anybody's guess, as 30 seconds into the tune the guitarist loses himself and generates a riff in direct opposition to that being articulated by the pianist. This results in a queasy, mutually incompatible series of notes that momentarily disrupt an otherwise majestic meditation on the blues condition. Apparently nobody felt that a second take was necessary. The lyrics describe the plight of a wandering penniless veteran of the Second World War. Fulson often indulged himself in slow meditative blues with lyrics that described loneliness and insomnia. He exercised his penchant for rocking and rolling on "Trying to Find My Baby" and "Fillmore Mess Around," subtitled "Fulson's Guitar Boogie." The next leg of the Lowell Fulson story finds him collaborating with Kansas City's master pianist and accomplished bandleader Jay McShann (with unidentified bassist and drummer), resulting in still more jazz-inflected blues. On "Black Cat Blues," ...

Complete Recorded Works In Chronological Order, Volume 2: 1935-'51.
$11.15 Mike Beale started out in the early 80’s in Fremantle Western Australia. An era dominated by big scale rock music didn’t provide a great deal of opportunities for a acoustic/roots based artist. But in 1984 a stroke of sporting magic changed the face of the local music scene.” Australia won the Americas cup in the mid 80’s and suddenly Fremantle became a cool place to hang out and watch music”. Playing in and around the small and more intimate venues provided the platform to launch a successful local solo career. For several years Beale played the local scene culminating in a 1986 local release of his first album Breakaway. Not long after releasing that first album Beale left West Australia for greener pastures which found him playing in places as far apart as Vancouver Canada, Canberra and Cairns before eventually ending up on the Gold coast.Forming the original Blues rock 3 piece Men in Blues in 2005 saw Beale touring and releasing material again. Playing many of the country’s better known blues/roots festivals including the Australian Blues Festival, Blues on Broadbeach, Bridgetown Blues and the Gympie Muster. The cd Battered and Bruised released in 2007 and backed with national touring commitments saw several Beale original songs released overseas on the BAR blues and roots Australian compilation cds. Internet radio coverage also saw Mike’s original song “Lost” as the number one requested song on Midnight Blues Radio.Mid 2008 saw Mike return to acoustic playing with a new album recorded on at Big Note Productions with engineer Adrian Stuckey (Neil Finn/Split Enz). “Bit nerve wracking going out on my own again without a band to hide behind, but the songs have turned out brilliantly” Debuting the cd at this years premier festival Blues on Broadbeach saw a fantastic reaction and a lot of sales. “I have a fair mailing list built up over the years and fortunately for me they’ve all been pretty keen to get their hands on the new cd”2007 ...
