| Understated effort from a guitar master
Richie Kotzen is somewhat of an enigma. The man possesses the ability to make technically brilliant albums given the fact that he can shred AND write good songs. However, he chooses to create soulful works that ooze the spirit of a man twice his age. His former Mr. Big cohorts, Billy Sheehan and Pat Torpey, contribute to a song which hints toward the direction of the Kotzen-era Mr. Big albums. I think Kotzen is capable of much more than this and I find his music to be somewhat bland, however I find it strangely infectious.

| What is... Good
Richie Kotzen is an amazing guitar player...but on top of that Richie can sing! His title track What Is really shows his great rock style and powerful range. I am very glad that I bought this record. Although it is not as funky as 'Wave of Emotion' - the quality of the songs and the amount of soul music this time around has convinced me to rate this even higher than I would rate a classic like 'Wave of Emotion' or the considerably weaker 'Something to say'. This cd is a nice addition to his other many cds, and a great little slow song called lose again is a great addition to this cd! I recommend this cd to everyone.
