Like him or not, you have to credit Yngwie Malmsteen for sticking to his guns over the years. Since his debut in the early '80s, he hasn't slowed down a bit, despite countless obstacles that have been thrown in his path along the way. This double-CD live set shows that -- astonishingly -- Malmsteen's playing is even faster and more over the top in concert than it is on his studio recordings. Overall, Double Live is far superior to the muddy-sounding (and sloppy) Live in Leningrad disc, released ten years earlier. It includes some tasty covers by Rainbow, Deep Purple, and Jimi Hendrix. ~ Andy Hinds

Yngwie Malmsteen, Best from the Best
Yngwie Malmsteen is the best guitar player of his generation, and one of the all time best, if not the best.
I saw him live in Lisbon back in 95, in Magnum Opus tour, and it was truly amazing.
This cd shows how good he is live, with all his skills heading to the audience, playing those wonderful gems, also known as songs, that he plays.
From "Far behond the sun", "Black Star", and "Rising force" to the new ones like "Alone in Paradise" or "Like an Angel", he really delivers some of the best playing in music.

No, War to End All Wars isn't a Molly Hatchet album, the Frank Frazetta cover painting notwithstanding. It's Yngwie J. Malmsteen's Rising Force's 2000 album on Spitfire, which also finally gave Malmsteen's '90s output a proper U.S. reissue release at about the same time. The fleet-fingered Swedish guitar god plays all the electric and acoustic guitar parts on War to End All Wars, of course, and he also plays bass and sitar. The VibeSetters are a Rock n' Reggae Jazzfunk group who have just recently made Santa Cruz, California their hometown after a not so easy decision to leave their island refuge of St. John in the Caribbean. The sound that The VibeSetters lay down is a healthy dose of funky rural electronic reggae rock rhythms applied with urban jazz and hip hop sensibilities which respect the past, celebrate the present and give promise to the future of music. Their simple, yet textural rhythm based songs have attracted an enthusiastic and eclectic audience to date with positive responses to the music from around the globe. While certainly not among his greatest efforts, Bootsy Collins' Ultra Wave (1980) is still infinitely better than most of the disco dregs being squeezed from the likes of Earth, Wind & Fire or Kool & the Gang. Although Collins (bass/vocals) had not formally split up the Rubber Band -- as the lineup was a continual fluctuation of talent from the seemingly bottomless reservoir of P-Funk alumni -- he takes sole (and quite possibly soul) credit on his fifth long-player in under four years. The title is an homage to the Detroit-based studios where Bootsy collaborated with core Rubber Band contributors Phelps "Catfish" Collins (guitar), Robert "P-Nut" Johnson (vocals), and the superbad dynamic horny horns of Fred Wesley (trombone) and Maceo Parker (sax). Not missing from these -- or any other Bootsy affairs for that matter -- is the unapologetic party atmosphere Collins' infuses within every pulsation of his full-bodied and self-proclaimed "Space Bass". The catchy and sexually tweaked opener "Mug Push" quickly became a dancefloor favorite and garnered a short but significant run on the R&B charts.
