Yngwie Malmsteen's public profile never quite recovered from the grunge fallout, but that didn't mean that his music declined with his popularity. Granted, Magnum Opus and Inspiration were a little weak, but Seventh Sign showed signs of life. That record found Malmsteen exploring the blues, but Facing the Animal occasionally finds him capturing that energy in his familiar neo-classical metal style. Everything on the record is predictable, from the rockers to the power ballads, and while a few cuts sound a little tired, much of the record is stronger than anything Malmsteen has recorded in years -- and for dedicated fans, that's good news. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

| Facing The Animal Music Review Average Rating: (4.4 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Not as good as I thought... As the reviews here are very positive about this album, I thought it would be one of Yngwie's best. So I bought it, and I like it, but this is not Yngwie's best album at all. I must say, the first 4 songs are truly great, I can't deny that. But here are my critics: on the rock/metal songs Yngwie plays good solo's, but on pop/rock songs like 'Alone in Paradise' and 'Only the Strong' his solo's are just pethatic! He shreds over 'Alone in Paradise', while he should have played a more melodic and peacefull solo. A bit of the same with 'Only the Strong', I guess he didn't care much for it and just did a solo in one take. Another thing about this album: Songs like 'Poison in your Veins', 'Only the Strong' and 'End of my Rope' aren't very original, and get boring after a while. By the way, I must mention the solo of 'Heathens from the North', which is great and is my favorite solo of this album. Another solo worth to mention is the solo of 'Sacrifice', also very good. Well, that would be all. I'd say buy this only if you can miss the money. Enjoy! Submitted by Ad (Holland) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Yes Yngwie, this is what we want!!! This is the best Malmsteen album in my opinion. Magnum Opus and Seventh Sign were great ones too but this one has a magic that is missing from many of his releases. I thought Inspiration was great as well. This CD has great songs and great production! To top it off you have the killer drumming and sound of Cozy Powell. He may not be as technical as say John Macaluso or some of the others Yngwie has had, but he brings a real powerhouse sound to the CD that makes this an extraordinary release. Great singing also by Mats Leven who is the best since Michael Vescera. Wish this line-up would have lasted. Buy this one for sure!! You Gotta Love It Out of all the CDs Malmsteen produced in the 90's this has to rank as probably the best, only Eclipse, from 1990 would come relatively close. The hooky style makes you enjoy the truely brilliant riffs and solo's that fit quite nicely with this offering of songs. I wish War to End all Wars had a third of the power and grace this album has. Treat yourself, buy it, you will enjoy great music! Submitted by a reviewer (Yelm, Wa) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
I'm sorry... In my other review I gave this album 3 stars, but after listening this album a bit more, I started to like it more. And it's 5 stars for sure, sorry for reviewing this album without listening it enough! This is one of Yngwie's best albums! Submitted by Ad (Liverpool, UK) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
One of his best albums indeed !!! The thing about this album, is that it's not only mindless shredding. First is melody, rythm and creativity, then, Malmsteen's guitar wizardy. Great compositions. Buy this album, you won't regret it!!! -you would regret it if you bought "Fire & Ice"... that is Malmsteen's WORSE album. $11.95 No, War to End All Wars isn't a Molly Hatchet album, the Frank Frazetta cover painting notwithstanding. It's Yngwie J. Malmsteen's Rising Force's 2000 album on Spitfire, which also finally gave Malmsteen's '90s output a proper U.S. reissue release at about the same time. The fleet-fingered Swedish guitar god plays all the electric and acoustic guitar parts on War to End All Wars, of course, and he also plays bass and sitar. And, for better or worse, he writes all the lyrics. His supporting players include vocalist Mark Boals, keyboardist Mats Olausson, and drummer John Macaluso. War to End All Wars is packed with Malmsteen's jaw-dropping, neo-classical, light-speed guitar shredding, and the three instrumentals are arguably the best tracks. (Face it, nobody listens to a Malmsteen album for the vocals, and Boals' operatic wailing wears thin after awhile.) "Molto Arpeggiosa" is the highlight and the track's foundation, oddly ...

Procol Harum, who reached an astounding peak with their 1967 debut, achieved further heights with each successive release up to A SALTY DOG, their third. This album mixes heartfelt singing with orchestral grandeur and an R&B-based rhythm section (B.J. Wilson is one of the great unsung drummers of the '60s and '70s). The band easily and honestly moves from the symphonic mini-epic of the title track to the bluesy ...
