| | Jimmy McCracklin Tell It To The Judge! CD Jimmy McCracklin Discography of CDs
R&B/soul singer (in the '60s) Jimmy McCracklin has the blues on this collection of mostly self-compositions. Some tunes have an old rural feel to them, while others literally jump from the speakers and invite you to get up and go crazy. Craftiest on crawlers, McCracklin has included a fair number of them here, including the thought-provoking "Would Man Be Satisfied" and "Double Dealin' on Me." "I Just Got to Know," with its rolling piano, is a buzz; while the gospel-flavored "My Answer" and "Bad Situation" are fortified by accompanying female vocals that take you to church. ~ Andrew Hamilton
the legendary blues man is at it again, and he's in fine form; he presents 17 foot tappin', hand clappin' cuts that show off his skills as a top blues & R&B singer, switching back & forth between the two effortlessly

Tell It To The Judge! album
$11.99 While its predecessor, 2005's HOPE AND DESIRE, found blues-rocker Susan Tedeschi getting on a soul train, BACK TO THE RIVER represents that phrase beloved by hardcore fans of any artist, "a return to form." Tedeschi is back to the hard-hitting, bluesy sound with which she made her name, and her joy at this stylistic homecoming is clearly audible; you can hear it both in the throaty abandon of her vocals and in the ...
| | Isaac Hayes Shaft (Deluxe Edition) CD (1971) SDTK
Tell It To The Judge! CD music
$9.25 Despite its codification into our collective pop culture consciousness, Isaac Hayes' "Theme From Shaft" is a highly original composition. It's been remade by Hayes himself for the remade Shaft film, and appropriately kicks off this collection of tunes from the movie by some of R&B's New Jacks.
A diverse selection of artists encompass the collection, from lascivious soul stirrer R. Kelly to the rugged Latin hip-hop of Fulanito, along with many other noteworthy diversions that represent the many flavors of contemporary urban soul. ...

Tell It To The Judge! album
$14.49 Hound Dog Taylor & The Houserockers: Hound Dog Taylor, Brewer Phillips (guitar); Ted Harvey (drums).
A talent so mighty and so criminally overlooked that Bruce Iglauer started Chicago's Alligator Records just to put out his debut full-length, Theodore Roosevelt "Hound Dog" Taylor may be as important to blues and roots postmodernists as Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters were to the classic blues rockers. With a heavily distorted, highly amplified electric sound that eschewed the standard time-keeping of a bassist for the more propulsive chug of a rhythm guitar player, Taylor and his Houserockers brought the grimy juke-joint boogie back to the fore with this 1973 release. Influenced by Elmore James' loud and hard slide-guitar attack (James' standard "It Hurts Me ...

Tell It To The Judge! album
$12.65 Of course, it is the group's chart hits that stand out here, and for good reason. The collection's title cut, and "Poison Arrow" (an early MTV video sensation) are near-perfect pop songs. Likewise, the lilting electro-ballad "Be Near Me," the Smokey Robinson homage "When Smokey Sings" (which appropriates the riff from "Tears of a Clown"), and the catchy bounce of "How to Be a Millionaire" push all the right pleasure buttons. A winner as both a hits collection and a comprehensive career overview, LOOK OF LOVE is the definitive ...
