| | Woman's Heart CD (1 Customer Review)
Listening to Ireland speak from the heart is to hear a woman's voice. A Woman's Heart is a rare collection of Ireland's top female vocalists, including Maura O'Connell, Frances Black, Dolores Keane, Sharon Shannon, Eleanor McEvoy, and Mary Black...Each artist is famous in her own right and sings one of her signature pieces, such as Frances Black's "Wall of Tears" and "After the Ball," "Caledonia" by Keane and "Only a Woman's Heart," and "I Hear You Breathing In" by McEvoy. All the pieces have a contemporary sound to them, but all are unmistakably Irish to the core. ~ MusD Woman's Heart Songs | 1. | Only a Woman's Heart - Mary Black/Eleanor McEvoy |

| | Whitesnake Starkers In Tokyo CD (1998) (Import) Germany; United Kingdom
Woman's Heart music CDs
$7.55 STARKERS IN TOKYO captures Whitesnake, live in concert in Japan.
Whitesnake's grip on the U.S. record-buying public may have lessened considerably by the late '90s, but in other parts of the world (especially Japan), David Coverdale and company still reigned supreme. Keeping in step with the unplugged craze of the decade, Coverdale and longtime guitarist Adrian Vandenberg united for such a performance in the land of the rising sun, resulting in the release of 1998's Starkers in Tokyo. Anyone wondering if Coverdale can still cut it vocally all these years later will be pleasantly surprised -- the bloke can still sing splendidly, as the duo perform selections from throughout the singer's career. Expectedly, the ballads sound the best in this stripped-down setting ("Is This Love," and especially the overlooked Deep Purple nugget "Soldier of Fortune"), as do made over renditions of "Love Ain't No Stranger" and "The Deeper the Love." While ...
| | Best Tango Album In The World, Ever! CDs (2003)
Woman's Heart songs
$14.45 The title of this television-advertised compilation may be arrogant, but then the tango is not a dance for the shy and retiring. Whether or not it is, as it claims, The Best Tango Album in the World, Ever!, the two-disc set, containing 30 tracks and running a little less than an hour and a half, does feature some major performers of the music, notably Carlos Gardel, renowned as the father of the tango, heard performing "Volver" and the concluding vocal version of "Mi Buenos Aires Querido," and Astor Piazzolla, who used the tango as a vehicle for composing modern classical music, heard performing "La Rayuela." Other notable performers include Carlos Garcia & His Orchestra, heard on four tracks, Sexteto Mayor, Florindo Sassone & His Traditional Orchestra, and Alfredo de Angelis & His Traditional Orchestra. (If the casual listener to whom this collection is intended recognizes the third track, "Por una Cabeza," that's because it has turned up in the film Scent of ...

| | Sandy Denny Where The Time Goes CD (2005)
Woman's Heart CD music
$12.79 This 13-song compilation presents early recordings by British folk-rock singer Sandy Denny, who is known for her solo work as well has her stint in the bands Fairport Convention and the Strawbs.
This collection includes the bonus tracks "Been on the Road So Long" (featuring Alex Campbell), as well as two 1968 songs with the Strawbs, "Two Weeks Last Summer" and "Who Knows Where the Time Goes."
It is astonishing that it has taken this long -- over 15 years -- to assemble the early Sandy Denny sides in one place, on the same CD, from proper tape sources and in their basic undubbed form. Across the decades most of it has appeared somewhere, originally scattered across several late-'60s and early-'70s LPs linking Denny with other artists, but this is the first time it's come down to listeners all in one sitting, the way it was recorded, without a platter change to be made, and no tracks given over to anyone else. The first thing that longtime fans will note is the extent with which the CD seems to overlap with innumerable Sandy Denny compilations devoted to her early work that have appeared in the past. The difference here is that the producer, Clinton Heylin, was working with a clearer idea of what was needed (and what he wanted) and better tape sources, and was thus able to give listeners something that is well-nigh perfect. And so it opens with an undubbed version of "Who Knows Where the Time Goes" by Sandy Denny and the Strawbs, and the CD also includes the companion recording from the same May 1967 body of work, her original rendition of Strawbs leader Dave Cousins' "Two Weeks Last Summer." For those who endured the dubious sound quality of Mooncrest's releases of Denny's renditions of "Pretty Polly," etc., this release also makes up for those imperfections and then some -- the sound throughout is close and crisp, with the lush guitar sounds on "Milk and Honey" and "My Ramblin' Boy" resonating out beautifully, and without a trace of a vinyl source anywhere. The first dozen tracks are effectively master takes, while the next six are alternate versions that are sufficiently different to impress more than just the obvious Denny completists, and the disc concludes with her duet rendition of "Been on the Road So Long" with Alex Campbell, in tandem with whom some of this material was originally released on vinyl. Of course, those who already own 2004's five-CD A Boxful of Treasures have some of what's here in perfectly good form, but for a long, close look at Denny from the outset of her career, this is the next place to stop on one's trip across her career, and it fits in beautifully with the expanded versions of her solo albums (and the Fotheringay CD) that have been appearing since 2003. ~ Bruce Eder
Who Knows Where The Time Goes was the first and most important anthology of Sandy Denny's music and was originally released as a 3 CD box set (43 tracks) in 1985. This is not that! This single disc - subtitled ...

Woman's Heart album
$15.99 Parallel Dreams, the Canadian harpist/songwriter's quietly moving sophomore release, finds the mystical red-haired siren in true balladeer form. By far McKennitt's most romantic venture -- the liner notes describe the project's central theme as a "yearning toward love, liberty and integration" -- Dreams is more ambitious than her sparse, impeccably recorded debut, Elemental, tripling the amount of players and laying the groundwork for the immense scope she would go on to attain on future recordings. The heartbreaking trio of "Standing Stones," "Annachnie Gordon," ...
