Some people just don't 'get' Bad Brains. To be fair, their early recordings can be intimidating, and it is only when you familiarize yourself with the musical dialectics of tracks such as 'Pay To Cum' that you can really appreciate their kinetic aesthetic. Abandoning the speed-freak punk cum dub reggae crossover of old, Bad Brains now employed funk and conventional rock stylings. What they lost in 'edge' they more than compensated for in power, allowing temperamental vocalist H.R. to make the most of his famously elastic vocal range over the album's 31 minutes. The exception was 'Sacred Love', where H.R.'s vocals were phoned in from jail during recording sessions after being busted for marijuana possession.

Alternative Press (7/95, pp.77-78) - Ranked #9 in AP's list of the 'Top 99 Of '85-'95' - "...I AGAINST I could be a Bad Brains Greatest Hits package: 'Re-Ignition,' 'She's Calling You,' 'Return To Heaven,' and 'Sacred Love' put all of their influences to use, from H.R.'s soulful vocals to Dr. Know's driving guitar riffs....Once you've heard it, you'll be forced not to forget..." Bad Brains I Against I Songs I Against I Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) Bad Brains get funky This band is like no other, able to cover punk, funk and reggae,I Against I melds all of these styles together effortlessly. This CD should go down in history as one of the all time greats but probably wont as they have never really been recognised for what they have done.A must for any self respecting music fan as all of their releases are, from mean funk, flat out punk and some soothing reggae no one does it like The Bad Brains.Championed by The Beastie Boys,The Red Hot Chili Peppers to name a few it is an important CD buy it and be reborn to the real thing.Enough said. Sad There is nothing bad on this album, but there is nothing great on it either (Besides the title track). This starts out really awesome, but starts to slow down and gets kind of boring. You almost can't even tell this was the same classic punk band that cranked out incredible tunes like "Banned In DC" and "Pay To Cum" This sounds more like metal than Bad Brains classic early stuff. Doesn't really get any better than this The first Bad Brains album is always mentioned as highly influential and it is a great album. But "I Against I" sounds like a totally different band. They slowed the tempo down a little and replaced it with a mean groove. H.R. still goes insane on some tracks while on others he's practically crooning in places. Once you purchase this album, you will most likely find it difficult to live without it by your side. If you're not moved by this stuff, consider yourself anti-musical. | | Minor Threat Complete Discography CD (1988)
I Against I CD music
$10.65 The Washington, D.C. straightedge hardcore punk scene began with Minor Threat. The band recorded two LPs on its own Dischord label, plus an EP and the miscellaneous singles that are collected on this CD. Many of the early recordings on this collection seethe with teen-age angst and indignation. The songs rage against bullies, religious hypocrisy, and the herd mentality.
Other songs, taken from later in Minor Threat's career, feature tighter and more sophisticated playing. Metallic ...

I Against I songs
$11.25 BAD BRAINS was originally released on cassette. It was issued on CD for the first time in 1996.
The Bad Brains were one of the most important voices of the East Coast hardcore scene during its halcyon days of the '80s. What they brought to the scene was nothing short of revolutionary--infusing the form's rage with the spiritual conviction of the Rasta tradition and the instrumental prowess of seasoned jazz players, they breathed new life into a genre in danger of stagnation, ...

| | Arcade Fire Funeral CD (2004)
I Against I CD music
$11.89 This Montreal ensemble's fiery debut is marked by surging guitars, soulful strings, driving drums, brilliant bass lines, and the quavering vocals of married couple Win Butler and Regine Chassagne. The group's song structures careen through a vast territory of musical and personal history, with lyrics warm with memories of childhood neighborhoods and deceased loved ones, resulting in an alternating current of joy and sadness.
Favorably compared to the Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev, and Broken Social Scene, the Arcade Fire's sound ...

I Against I album
$9.75 There's so much potential waiting to be unleashed by this band that it's scary. They could easily be the updated '60s Santana, full of Latin fire, or a classy Latin pop band. The problem with this record is that they don't seem to be sure which direction to take -- and are covering all of their options. On both "Caliente" and "Truenos Distantes" (which reappears in an English version as "Distant Thunder"), the arrangement peaks before exploding in a tasty guitar solo in best vintage Santana style, while on "Que Claros Es" guitar and accordion (uncredited, as is the excellent piano work) manage a very rootsy, delicious sound. Elsewhere, such as with "Sueño" and "No Te Quiero," they're a great pop band in the traditional sense -- memorable songs and excellent hooks. Cindy Padilla is a strong singer and guitarist/songwriter Cecilia Villar has the ability to become a powerhouse. But they still have a way to go -- there are really only eight songs on the disc, as two are repeated in Anglo versions, and they need more material. They also need a better producer who can take their strengths and push ...

| | Eivind Opsvik Commuter Anthems CD (2007) (Import) Norway
I Against I CD music
$15.59 COMMUTER ANTHEMS is the second release from New York-based duo Eivind Opsvik and Aaron Jennings. Using traditional rock instruments (guitar, drum, bass) mixed with electronic ones (theremin, software), Opsvik & Jennings create pastoral pop orchestrations that filter playfully through electronic processing. A departure from their first, more electronic album, COMMUTER ANTHEMS brings in folk and country influences on some tracks via glockenspiel and lapsteel. The addition of jazz influences makes this album slightly less classifiable, like many releases on the experimental label Rune Grammafon.
This is the second full-length release from Eivind Opsvik (bass, drums, percussion, piano, organ, Theremin, vocals, software) and Aaron Jennings (guitars, lap steel, banjo, concertina, vocals, software), and their first on Rune Grammofon. Opsvik is from Oslo, Norway, but has lived in New York since 1998. He started out playing the drums at a very early age, but gradually ...
