Mitch Woods & His Rocket 88's: Mitch Woods (vocals, piano), Derek Irving (guitar), "Freeze" Gullory (accordion, rubboard), Jonny Viau (alto & tenor saxophones), Michael Peloquin (harmonica, tenor & baritone saxophones), Steve Wolf (bass), Mike Rosas, Ben Holmes (drums).
All songs written by Mitch Woods except "Bonin'" (Derek Irving).
Woods - a boogie-woogie pianist of first order - is rooted in good-timey rock, with interesting tangents into the Louisiana bayou ("Zydeco Boogie") and New Orleans Mardi Gras ("Hattie Queen"). "Boogie" is the operative word here, with the lead track, "Honkin', Shoutin', Pumpin', Poundin'," accurately setting the tone. ~ Roch Parisien

Shakin' The Shack
$13.55 For his fourth solo release, and third on the Evidence label, the Fabulous Thunderbirds' guitarist, Kid Ramos, once again calls in some high-profile blues friends for assistance. Instead of last album's guitarists and jump blues horns, this time Ramos sticks with harpists/vocalists to provide the momentum on a set of relatively stripped-down, greasy blues. He's also the only guitarist on the sessions, which makes this a spotlight for his picking as well as his bandleading abilities. Harmonica aces Rick Estrin (Little Charlie & the Nightcats), Paul de Lay, Lynwood Slim, Johnny Dyer, James Harman (who only plays on one of his three tracks and sings on the others), and Charlie Musselwhite, along with Rod Piazza, all contribute. The leadoff title cut, an instrumental that sounds like it was left over from his last horn-infused ...
| | Jimmy Thackery Whiskey Store CD (2002)
Shakin' The Shack
$11.55 The first summit meeting for these two journeymen roots-blues-rock guitarists is a rousing triumph. On paper, Tab Benoit's less aggressive New Orleans style wouldn't seem to mesh with Jimmy Thackery's boozy, tough, rough and tumble approach. But like Lennon and McCartney, each complements the other. Benoit lets his Delta and Texas-styled roots seep into the proceedings, tempering Thackery's more bombastic leads. Stevie Ray Vaughan's Double Trouble rhythm section and keyboardist Reese Wynans provide dexterous support, as does ace harp master Charlie Musselwhite. Most importantly, this ...

Shakin' The Shack
$27.85 This collection of 17 songs by legendary blues guitarist, Elmore James, features a collaboration with John Brim.
Elmore James had recorded a session for Chess in 1953 before settling down with the Bihari Brothers and again in 1960, shortly before starting his final recordings for Bobby Robinson's Fire, Fury and Enjoy labels. This collects up all of them on CD with the bonus addition of an alternate take of "The Sun Is Shining," which can be interpreted as a precursor to his later hit "The Sky Is Crying." The earlier sides from 1953 lack his inimitable slide, but the 1960 session produced classics like ...

Triptych melodies and vocal effects bring a smile to your face. What can we say except that Charles just keeps getting better.Polaris (part of the Neurobiotic team) delivers a jazzy funky track with groooove..enough to get anyone moving. The name of the track says it all – "Unity"Overlap (Misha & Vyachaslav) are from Russia.
