Bay Area bluesman Tommy Castro's fourth release on Blind Pig Records follows the same formula for success as his previous CAN'T KEEP A GOOD MAN DOWN. Over the years, Castro's sizzling live performances have made him a staple of the blues circuit along the California coast.
Packed with Memphis-style horns, RIGHT AS RAIN features the tasty session work of Dr. John on two tracks, as well as a terrific duet with Delbert McClinton on the R&B cooker "Don't Turn Your Heater Down." As a singer, Castro is part shouter, part crooner, with a style suggestive of Jeff Healey. His immaculate, accomplished guitar playing has been widely praised, drawing comparisons to Stevie Ray Vaughn and Duane Allman.

Tommy Castro Right As Rain Songs Right As Rain Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) Go it Right Heard some Tommy Castro from a friend so I bought one of his cd's in a music store. Got home and listened to it and then I ordered two more from cd universe. As a bonus we get Delbert McClinton singing with Tommy, I am a big Delbert fan too after seeing him at the first Farm Aid concert. Call it blues, call it rock n roll, I call it goooood! This guy can play and he belts it out pretty good too. Want some good music buy this and then buy Exception To The Rule to go along with it. You will have hours of enjoyment. This guy should be more well known the radio needs to play his music so more will hear and enjoy it. David Submitted by DandPANG (Crete, IL., USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
GREAT CD! Castro has a great blues voice, plays great guitar, and has a knack for catchy, sometimes funky, always R%B sounds. Go out and get this CD and spread the word! Submitted by a reviewer (Lafayette, LA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Tommy Castro: Ambassador of Blues\Rock Right As Rain is another shining example of the tightness and power of the Tommy Castro Band. From the opening riff of "Lucky in Love" to the foot tapping romp of "Kickin In" this installment has it all for those hard to please blues enthusiasts. Tommy's stinging guitar and whiskey baritone voice grab the listener's ear and don't let go. No CD collection is complete without this one. Submitted by a reviewer (Orem, UT) Was This Review Helpful? | | Tommy Castro Can't Keep A Good Man Down CD (1997)
Right As Rain
$13.75 There's a clean San Francisco sheen to Tommy Castro's second album for Blind Pig, and it's not just the glossy production work of Jim Gaines (Santana, Huey Lewis and Stevie Ray Vaughan) that's responsible for it. Castro and his band have long been local favorites of the Bay area bar crowd, and his blues-rock/soul-pop synthesis with the occasional slow blues thrown in makes him another young contender for the yuppie throne of modern bluesdom. From the opening rock strut of "Can't Keep a Good Man Down" and "You Knew the Job Was Dangerous," Castro lays down lazy, in-the-pocket vocals (the only time he hits scream territory is on the closer, Albert King's "Can't You See What You're Doing to Me") pitted against in your face guitar blasts à la Stevie Ray Vaughan. These Texas-approved Stratocaster tones reach their apex on a five-minute-plus workout of Buddy Guy's "My Time After Awhile," where Castro literally wrenches every textbook tone and volume setting out of his instrument and makes this perhaps the most blues-approved moment of the ...

Right As Rain
$9.35 From the moment Tommy Castro and his band began playing their distinctive blend of blues, soul, and rock, in and around the San Francisco Bay Area in 1991, fans and critics alike have been enthralled both by his exceptional song writing ability and his passionate performances. One of America's leading blues publications, Blues Review, said, "Castro's energy and charisma leap right out ..." Musician Magazine said of the San Jose, California native, "Castro could be a star", and Playboy gushed, "Worshipped for his guitar virtuosity, Castro throws a bit more rock and two bits of soul into his basic blues mix... He has the voice, the band and the guitar to pull it off." Hailed from the outset as one of the most electrifying and compelling live acts working today, (he's been an indispensable fixture on both the club and festival circuit in the US and abroad, touring ...
