Adventures in Jazz CDs (1963)
British Tour 1973 This late-'70s LP (released as part of Capitol's Jazz Classics series) contains ten previously unissued studio performances by Stan Kenton & His Orchestra covering a 15-year period. The highlights are many and the writing (by Gene Roland, Pete Rugolo, Shorty Rogers, Bill Holman, Johnny Richards, Clare Fischer, and Kenton) is consistently adventurous. Soloists include such major players as altoist Art Pepper, trumpeter Shorty Rogers, tenor saxophonist Bob Cooper (well featured on Shorty's "Coop's Solo"), altoist Lee Konitz (heard throughout Holman's "Of All Things"), trumpeter Jack Sheldon, and altoist Bud Shank. This valuable music has yet to be reissued since its original release. ~ Scott Yanow
