Queen: Freddie Mercury (vocals, keyboards); Brian May (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Roger Taylor (vocals, keyboards, drums, percussion); John Deacon (bass, keyboards). Recorded at Metropolis Studios, London, England and Mountain Studios, Montreaux, Switzerland. Personnel: Brian May (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Freddie Mercury (vocals, keyboards); Steve Howe (guitar); Mike Moran (Spanish guitar, keyboards); David Richards (programming). Recording information: metropolis Studios, London, England. Photographers: Simon Fowler; Steve Howe. Unbeknownst to the public, Freddie Mercury had been diagnosed with the AIDS virus in the late '80s. Although his health weakened by the '90s, Mercury insisted that the band work on music until the very end; their final album turned out to be 1991's Innuendo. Although it didn't receive the same critical praise as its predecessor, 1989's The Miracle, it was another strong album and global hit (again going gold in the U.S.). With hindsight, the song's lyrics are blatantly autobiographical from Mercury's standpoint, such as the reflective "These Are the Days of Our Lives" and the bold "The Show Must Go On." Also included are a pair of tracks that deal with mankind's inability to live harmoniously (the superb epic title track and "All God's People") and a humorous tribute to Mercury's beloved pet felines ("Delilah"). Queen's heavier side is represented by both the rock radio hit "Headlong" and "The Hitman," while "I'm Going Slightly Mad," "I Can't Live With You," and "Don't Try So Hard" show the band's pop sensibilities in full force, and on "Bijou," Brian May gets to show off his guitar chops. Innuendo was a fitting way to end one of rock's most successful careers. ~ Greg Prato INNUENDO would turn out to be Queen's swan song, as it was the last album released during vocalist Freddie Mercury's lifetime--he passed away several months after the album's release. Expanding on the successful back-to-basics sound of 1989's THE MIRACLE, INNUENDO was another solid outing. And like it's predecessor, it contains several tracks with lyrics that are clearly autobiographical for the band and especially Mercury, particularly "These Are the Days of Our Lives" and "The Show Must Go On," which deal with the topic of mortality. Not all of INNUENDO deals with serious topics, however--"I'm Going Slightly Mad" and "Delilah" both contain humorous lyrics and were designed to be taken lightheartedly. The epic title track, which opens the album, is an instant Queen classic on first listen, built similarly in structure to past Queen classics "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Somebody to Love." A pair of wonderful hard rockers, "The Hitman" and "Headlong" can be found on INNUENDO, as can a couple of lush ballads--"Don't Try So Hard" and "Bijou." Looking back, Queen went out on a definite high note with INNUENDO.Q (8/02, p.148) - Excellent - "...It is one of Queen's oddest, most poignant albums..." Innuendo Music Review Average Rating: (4.1 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews A Twentieth Century Gem No words can explain the greatness of this album. This is the pinnacle of Queen's career. I've listened to this band all my life and I could easily tell you that if you're looking for an ultimate Queen album, look no further. THIS IS IT. Innuendo. Their real last album (not even speaking about a posthumous compilation named Made In Heaven). And this is the order of their best 5 albums: 1. Innuendo 2. The Miracle 3. News Of The World 4. A Night At The Opera 5. A Kind Of Magic. You can now write them down and go buy them. Thanks for reading. Submitted by Ed (New York, NY) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
A regal farewell I confess to being a huge Queen fan. Even if I wasn't, I would be hard pressed to say anything bad about this album. Freddie's voice was never purer than on this album. His band mates help put out one of the best swan song albums rock and roll will ever see. Listening to the way he spat out the staccato lyrics of The Hitman still makes me marvel at his vocal prowess. His like will never be seen again. Magnificent All of Queens and Freddie Mercury's albums are fantastic classics. This was a grand finale for the greatest rock group of all time. It is great from beginning to end, and is topped off by the amazing "The Show Must Go On". I think that some reviewers did not notice the star rating at the top, because they loved the album but rated it the default 3 stars. Oh well, a great album that you have to hear to believe. Innuendo
$12.15 Queen: Freddie Mercury (vocals); Brian May (guitar); John Deacon (bass); Roger Taylor (percussion). Recorded at Mountain Studios, Montreux, Switzerland and Musicland Studios, Munich, Germany. Because Queen took the better part of 1981 off to work on the follow-up to their big 1980 hit The Game, fans were confident that the band's next release would follow in their winning tradition of classic albums. Unfortunately, this would not be the case. Unlike its predecessor, Hot Space was an inconsistent effort, marred by unfocused songwriting and material that was simply not as strong as their earlier work. Since they had just previously enjoyed a massive hit with the disco-fied "Another One Bites the Dust," Queen decided to dedicate the entire first side of the album to dance music, something that alienated their longtime rock fans. And while the single "Body Language" nearly cracked the U.S. Top Ten, the rest of the dance material was easily forgettable -- "Back Chat," "Staying Power," "Action This Day," and so on -- however, the album was not a ...

$11.45 Queen: Brian May (vocals, guitar); Freddie Mercury (vocals, piano); Roger Taylor (vocals, drums); John Deacon (bass). Additional personnel: Fred Mandel (piano, synthesizer, programming). Recorded at the Record Plant, Los Angeles and Musicland Studios, Munich from August 1983-January 1984. Personnel: Brian May (vocals, guitar, banjo, keyboards); Freddie Mercury (vocals, piano); Roger Taylor (vocals, drums); John Deacon (guitar); Fred Mandel (piano, synthesizer). Unknown Contributor Roles: Fred Mandel; Queen. Following the disappointing commercial performance of the dance-oriented Hot Space in 1982, Queen took 1983 off to get refocused and work on a follow-up that would put the band back on track. While the songwriting had definitely improved on the resulting The Works in 1984, the album sonically lacked the punch of such earlier releases as News of the World and The Game (strangely, Hot Space even had a better overall sound). Although the album only peaked at number ...
| | Queen Miracle CD (1989)
Innuendo
$12.15 Queen: Freddie Mercury, Brian May, John Deacon, Roger Taylor. Recorded at Olympic Studios, Town House Studios, London, England and Mountain Studios, Montreux, Switzerland. All songs written by Queen. Following their massive 1986 European stadium tour for the A Kind of Magic album, Queen took an extended break. Rumors swirled about an impending breakup, but it turned out the break was brought on by a painful marital divorce for guitarist Brian May (who subsequently battled depression and contemplated suicide), and Freddie Mercury being diagnosed with AIDS. Instead of sinking further into misery, the band regrouped, worked on each other's mental state, and recorded one of their most inspired albums, 1989's The Miracle. Lyrically, the songs tend to reflect on the band's past accomplishments ("Khashoggi's Ship," "Was It All Worth It") as well as the state of the world in the late '80s (the title track, "I Want It All"). Produced by the band and David Richards, The Miracle packs quite a sonic punch, recalling the ...

$12.59 Queen: Freddie Mercury (vocals, piano, keyboards); Brian May (guitar, keyboards, vocals); John Deacon (bass, keyboards); Roger Taylor (drums, percussion, keyboards, vocals). Additional personnel: Rebecca Leigh-White, Gary Martin, Catherine Porter, Miriam Stockley (background vocals). Engineers: David Richards, Justin Shirley-Smith, Joshua J. Macrae. During the 1980s, Queen ceased to be a big record seller in the U.S., but maintained its superstar status at home. In the '90s, following the death of Freddie Mercury, there was a brief resurgence of interest in America triggered by the inclusion of "Bohemian Rhapsody" in the movie Wayne's World. But in 1995, when the surviving members got around to releasing the final recordings done with Mercury in the form of Made in Heaven, the status quo had returned. The album topped the charts in Western Europe, with its single, "Heaven for Everyone," reaching the Top Ten, while in the U.S. it was on and off the charts within weeks. Musically, Made in Heaven harked back to Queen's 1970s ...

$13.05 Jerry Joseph & The Jackmormons: Jerry Joseph (vocals, guitar); Junior Ruppel (vocals, bass); Brad Rosen (vocals, drums). Recorded live in Butte, Montana. Some artists live for the stage, and some live for the studio. Hip-hop, urban contemporary, dance/club music, and electronica are very studio-oriented mediums; most rappers, in fact, are so technology-minded that they sound much better in the studio than they do on-stage. But the electronic, high-tech approach, for all its pleasures, hasn't eliminated the need for live music -- from hard bop to death metal to Mexican norteño, there are still a ton of artists who can't wait to hit the stage. And roots rockers Jerry Joseph & the Jackmormons certainly sound like they feel that way ...
