Original score composed and conducted by Hans Zimmer. CRIMSON TIDE won a 1996 Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Composition Written For A Motion Picture Or For Television. As the award-winning writer of such scores as THE LAST EMPEROR, DRIVING MISS DAISY, and THE LION KING, Hans Zimmer is one of the most successful and sought-after composers in the film industry. Zimmer won a Grammy for his score for the 1995 film CRIMSON TIDE, and the soundtrack bears many of the hallmarks of Zimmer's finest work. The composer builds dramatic passages using electronics, a men's choir, and traditional orchestral instrumentation, masterfully and elegantly integrating the three. As a film accompaniment and as a stand-alone recording, CRIMSON TIDE is among Zimmer's best work. For better or for worse, Hans Zimmer's Crimson Tide remains one of the defining film scores of the 1990s -- the first and most popular of the electronic action scores that dominated the genre throughout the latter half of the decade, its propulsive, bombastic approach perfectly captures the artifice and soullessness of a Hollywood era dominated by computer-generated effects and genetically engineered stars. Zimmer's frantic, testosterone-fueled melodies embrace function at the expense of form -- there's nothing remotely noteworthy except their sheer relentlessness and visceral intensity. There's no doubting how perfectly this kind of music complements the modern action blockbuster -- whether the previous statement constitutes a ringing endorsement or a scathing indictment depends entirely on the perspective of the reader. ~ Jason Ankeny
GREAT! A very rich recording. An excellent CD to listen to for entertainment or just for background music. Submitted by fuzzypony3 (Missoula, MT, USA) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Hans Zimmer for president? If you think that track 5 is the best piece of music you've heard from Hans Zimmer, then also listen to what he did for:
1-THE ROCK - Hummell gets The Rockets
2-GLADIATOR - Now We Are Free
3-BATMAN BEGINS - Molossus
4-KING ARTHUR - "All Of Them!"
5-THE PEACEMAKER -Chase (The last 5 minutes are the best, i swear)
I coud go on and on. Hans Zimmer is the Best. His melodies are heroic yet sad. He is even imitaded ("The Man In The Iron Mask" track 1 for example)but never surpassed. You listen to his music and you just want to jump in the screen and fight with the hero. There is not enough greatest hits of his works on the market. Even though he loved playing classic Big Band charts like Count Basie’s “Queen Beeâ€, he truly found himself while sitting in front of a piano writing songs. Soon his band director was lending him the keys to the Grand piano in the auditorium. Steven's songwriting and singing addiction eventually led him to the University of Massachusetts to study Afro American ...
