Composed in tandem with Media Ventures partners including Nick Glennie-Smith and Harry Gregson-Williams, Hans Zimmer's The Rock typifies the bigger-is-better film scoring sensibilities that defined Hollywood in the mid-'90s -- with its bombastic electronics, relentless bass, and blast-furnace eruptions of dissonance, the music is an overwhelming sensory experience, and virtually impossible to absorb over the course of a single sitting. ~ Jason Ankeny

Too many cooks spoil the broth here -- with so many contrasting compositional approaches in the mix, the music is a disjointed mess, and thematic unity is nothing more than an afterthought. Rock Soundtrack Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Alcataraz Rocks!!! It’s a tremendous effort by Nick Glennie-Smith, Hans Zimmer and Harry Gregson-Williams. The entire effort adds up to a brilliant action movie. The entire cast complements the characters and a dedicated director to round things up tightly and neatly without leaving things behind and a OST that combines with the elements and drives you to the edge of your seat. The OST have similarities with the score of SPEED so if you are thinking of buying this cd get the OST of Speed too cos its worth the ride. WARNING, avoid playing any of the above mentioned OST’s while driving (has very undesired effects on your driving)

"Rock on" A really, really good soundtrack. Good lenght (around an hour long) with some great themes. Well worth the money - Hanz Zimmer and his team have successfully achieved a stunning, rocking, ground shaking score that is really good! Submitted by Styggron (Scotland) Was This Review Helpful? unbelieveable without question the best soundtrack ever. I listen to it over and over again and never get tired of it. The first time I heard Hans Zimmer was back in the 80's with miami vice. Submitted by Doron (Forest Hills,NY,USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
