Putrid. Absolutely foul. Not because the musicians aren't brilliant - they are. It's just so sad to hear these guys dumb it down ("Downes") to such a profoundly idiotic level.

A while ago I purchased the newest re-release of this 1982 album. As a longtime fan of some of the musicians involved in this project (Howe, Wetton, Palmer), I thought I would take all of the the gushing endorsements here, and the overwhelmingly negative comments here and elsewhere, and then re-visit the music and evaluate it for myself.

How many ways can you say "awful"? Considering the pedigrees of most of the musicians involved in this laughable exercise, the results (musically speaking) couldn't have been worse.

Truly awful dreck from talented players who obviously knew better but went for the big sales cash-o-la. It's even worse in hindsight, bacause it could have (& should have) been another complex, innovative album classic.
