Everything about Coverdale/Page, right down to the goofy copping of the Presence artwork, is an attempt to recapture the pompous majesty of Led Zeppelin. It doesn't succeed, of course, but it does leave all of the Zep clones in the dust. Although Jimmy Page plays better here than he has since 1979's In Through the Out Door, there is a conspicuous lack of solos. If you've never liked David Coverdale, his performance will not change your opinion. Both fare better on the rockers; the power ballads tend be slightly tedious. Essentially, Coverdale/Page never quite rivals the bold experimentation of Led Zeppelin, yet at its best moments, it's a guilty pleasure. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine Everything about Coverdale/Page, right down to the goofy copping of the Presence artwork, is an attempt to recapture the pompous majesty of Led Zeppelin. Essentially, Coverdale/Page boils down to a guilty pleasure at its best moments ("Shake My Tree," "Pride and Joy," "Absolution Blues"), but never quite rivals the bold experimentation of Led Zeppelin. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine After a planned collaboration with Robert Plant fell through in the early 1990s, Jimmy Page did the next best thing--he hooked up with ex-Whitesnake singer David Coverdale, who's often compared to Plant vocally, for a single album, 1993's COVERDALE/PAGE. As you'd assume, the duo's sound is similar to the mighty Led Zeppelin--bluesy heavy metal dripping with machismo. While many of the highlights are hard rock-based ("Shake My Tree," "Waiting on You," "Pride and Joy"), there are a few slow blues numbers that are just as strong ("Take Me For a Little While," "Over Now"). Although COVERDALE/PAGE caused quite a stir with Zep/classic rock fans worldwide, the duo only played a handful of live dates together in Japan, and split up shortly thereafter when Plant finally agreed to re-join forces with Page (under the name Page/Plant).Rolling Stone (4/15/93, p.62) - 3 Stars - Good - "...may not be the second coming of Led Zeppelin, but it's close enough that only the most curmudgeonly would deny the band its due....Coverdale['s] bluesy howl has never been put to better use than against Page's guitar..." Q (5/93, p.89) - 4 Stars - Excellent - "...opt[s] for the post- LED ZEPPELIN III orchestrations that made Page's group a worldwide phenomenon...this album screams classic from start to finish..." Coverdale / Page Coverdale/Page Songs Coverdale/Page Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) I believe Coverdale is original and better than Plant. David Coverdale has been one of the legends in terms of rock/heavymetal vocals. His performances with Deep Purple, Whitesnake and this venture are a proof of that. Page/Covedale is a brilliant production, great guitar riffs, and powerful vocals. A must for classic hard rock fan. Submitted by Owais2010 (Karachi, Pakistan) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
GROWLS LIKE A MAD DOG Who cares about comparisons. COVERDALE was singing like PLANT during the 70's..guess what? Nobody cares. This album is some of the best work PAGE has ever done during his career and should be proud of how it came off. The recording is first rate. The songs are well written and brillantly delivered. PAGE Growls like a mad dog and is smoother on occassion than glass. COVERDALE is and always be a legend vocalist that has more power in his voice than half the pretenders on the top 40. Buy, beg or borrow this CD, it is CLASSIC ROCK at its' very best. Five STARS. Submitted by Malcolm (Australia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
more please! Why did this stop at one album? This is a great disc and does not get the attention it deserves. Why these guys did not put out more is my question. Submitted by Bob (Buffalo ny) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Shakin' My Tree At the time this cd came out I remember thinking that something about this was not right, I mean Jimmy Page playing with a person notorious for ripping off the mighty Zep! Jimmy has been known for doing the same so I guess you could call it fate? Listening to this after all of these years I find myself loving this album, I have not heard Jimmy play like that in so long that I find myself really enjoying this. I could see this as the next album Zep would have made if John Bonham would have been alive. I would recommend this album to anybody longning to hear Jimmy strut and rip like he used to. david Coverdale does a great job with the vocals, it is his voice and not Robert Plant's but you can't help what you sound like but he added a powerful performance.

$16.45 "Government is just an army run by rich people to protect them while they steal from the rest of us." (from High School)King Happy's controversial and brutally honest spoken word performances - poetic visions of the modern-day hell we all live in - will send chills up your spine. And yet the music by groovemaster Derrik Jordan (Touch The Earth, Expecting A Miracle, Super String Theory) is unbearably seductive. The synergy between the words and the music stirs the entire range of human emotions, from the mellow Marvin Gaye memories of the title tune to the horn-driven funk of the sarcastic High School, from the industrial nightmare world ...
