Teenage Fanclub emerged from a fraternal milieu centred on the Scottish town of Bellshill. A common love of pop tradition bound the quartet together and elements of their mentors abound on this collection. Neil Young and Big Star are obvious reference points, but the Fannies are not merely Byrds copyists. Dizzy melodies, long-hair guitar and unpretentiousness abound, the set's attraction ultimately residing in its cumulative, carefree charm. An impishness enhances the entire proceedings; only the churlish can resist its obvious attractions. Since this release they have been sorely taken for granted and have become an institution rather than stars. Everybody loves them but not enough to buy them.

"I'll Be There For You (Theme From Friends)" was nominated for a 1996 Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal.
Poor Phil Solem and Danny Wilde. They spend their lives perfecting the baroque pop aesthetic of the Beatles, Crowded House and all the crafty popsmiths that came in between, and they end up being known as the guys who did the theme to that TV show. But, hey, there's a fine tradition of crafty popsmiths doing TV--from Sonny Curtis, who wrote both "I Fought The Law" for the Bobby Fuller Four and "Love Is All Around" for Mary Tyler Moore, to John Sebastian, who went from the Lovin' Spoonful to "Welcome Back Kotter." As for The Rembrandts, they probably wrote "I'll Be There For You," the jangly theme from FRIENDS, in about fifteen minutes, and it'll keep them in residuals for the rest of their lives. This will free them to make the kind of swell pop songs--driven by deceptively catchy chord changes, inventive arrangements and brotherly harmonies--that fill up the remainder of their third album.

She’s An Army of One is an uplifting tribute to the millions of dedicated women who have in the past and presently serve in the armed forces of the United States. The project is centered around a new song written and composed by Nashville songwriter and producer, Mark Carman, titled "She's An Army of One." The lyrics for the song were written by Carman while waiting for a connecting flight at the Atlanta airport. According to TRA-STAR President, Frank Scherman, Carman was on his way to a business meeting in Virginia Beach, VA, when he made the stop in Atlanta. "While waiting there, Mark observed a number of military personnel in their uniforms and was intrigued by the number of female soldiers in the group. He just felt compelled to write the song as his way of saying thanks," said Scherman. "These were young women," said Scherman, "and like their male counterparts, they have devoted a part of their lives to the preservation of freedom and in support of the global war on terrorism." Although the song pays tribute to women soldiers in general, there was one particular soldier that Carman gives credit for being the inspiration for the song. That soldier is COL Mary C.
