THE SPAGHETTI INCIDENT? is part of the Geffen Goldline Series.
The last official studio recording of the 1990s for Guns N' Roses was 1993's THE SPAGHETTI INCIDENT?. This collection of mostly punk covers was released at a time when G N' R was reeling from both internal dissension (founding member Izzy Stradlin left after the release of USE YOUR ILLUSION I & II) and the great grunge explosion of 1991 that made the band seem passe. Rather than jumping on any bandwagons, the California quintet instead paid homage to heroes overlooked by kids caught up in buying the right kind of flannel.
Leading the charge was bassist Duff McKagan (who'd played with almost 30 Seattle bands including the Fartz and Fastbacks), G N' R recorded scorching covers of songs by Fear ("I Don't Care About You"), the New York Dolls ("Human Being"), and the Damned ("New Rose"). New guitarist Gilby Clarke provided a solid foil for Slash as Axl Rose crooned doo-wop (The Skyliner's "Since I Don't Have You") and sang with a faux British accent (UK Subs' "Down on the Farm"). Being Guns N' Roses meant controversy was never far behind and this time around the boys were criticized for including a hidden cover of Charles Manson's "Look at Your Game Girl."

Rolling Stone (12/9/93, p.65) - 3.5 Stars - Good Plus - "...In THE SPAGHETTI INCIDENT?, an album of mostly punky cover versions of drunk-rock classics, Guns N' Roses reassert their roots in hard-edged rock & roll-- some punk rock, some not..." Guns N' Roses Spaghetti Incident? Songs Spaghetti Incident? Music Review Average Rating: (3.6 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews For Die Hards Only Unless you believe Axl Rose is the greatest person and decision maker in the world, this album is not for the rest of you who think Axl is a stupid @$$wipe. All covers? Come On! I had a friend burn this for me, i gave him another blank cd and i threw this out, told him sorry for wasting his time. Don't Buy This! stick with use your illusion, lies, and appetite I bought this at the local wal-mart recently and could not wait to hear what was in store. I read a note in the booklet it came with that said "stick with the originals" popped the cd in and hated the 1st goofy track on there, and listened to the chorus be repeated way too many times in the next 3 songs, "ain't it fun" is a terrible song to begin with, and the rest is just slop. Except "Hair of the Dog", which was actually very good and the only reason I gave it 2 stars. Maybe guns n roses should stick with doing covers people have actually heard of anyway. guns n roses is stll a great band don't get me wrong, it's just that they could have picked much better songs. ONLY FOR THE FANS this album has always been the worst of the group. the reason i bought it was to complete my g n' r collection. there are 1 or 2 good songs but overall very dissapointing and a sad way to break up one of the greatest bands ever. Wake up! Just cause these "rock stars" covered bands they were influenced by and not lame a** arena rock bands the lot of you seem to be familiar with, doesn't mean you give this cd thumbs down or one thumb up because it's your precious GNR. Try listening to these bands they covered! Brilliant! Submitted by midnight_ghoul76 (Springfield, MO) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Guns N Roses covers classic songs This was Guns N Roses last CD with the lineup including Slash, Duff McKagen, etc. This is not to be overlooked, and is well worth a listen. My fave songs are "Down on the Farm", "I Don't Care About You" and "Hair of the Dog". Overall, the group does a fabulous job on the songs found here. I would recommend this CD to any Guns N Roses fan. Submitted by Roy (Lakewood, WA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
