(1 Customer Review)
Vocalist Foxy Brown's first full-length release on Ras in 1989 was a major disappointment. The singer long considered among the better pure vocalists in her generation sounded flat, unconvincing and wooden on several of the set's 10 songs, especially the remake of Luther Vandross' "Never Too Much" called "Thousand Kisses." Brown's version lacked range, warmth and conviction, while her cover of Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car" and Surface's "Shower Me With ... Foxy Brown Foxy Songs | 1. | Sorry | |

Foxy album
$12.65 The sophomore album from hip-hop diva Foxy Brown comes almost two years after she took rap music by storm. Her hardcore rhyme flow and fashionable lyrical content are still present, but where Foxy went the commercial route with her debut, she returns to the streets on CHYNA DOLL. Constantly a target for the media, Foxy explains the hardships that go along with that circumstance on "My Life." She flips the coin, though, on "B.W.A.," collaborating with Gangsta Boo and Mia X for a women's-power anthem. Street-inspired songs abound on CHYNA DOLL, and Brown is visited by her partner-in-rhyme, Jay-Z, as well as other notable hardcore MCs such as DMX.
Engineers include: Jason Goldstein, Tom Soares, T Mix.
Personnel: Too Short (vocals).

| | Destiny's Child Writing's On The Wall CD (1999)
Foxy CD music
$6.89 "Bills, Bills, Bills" was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal and for Best R&B Song.
"Say My Name" won the 2001 Grammy Award in the categories of Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal and Best R&B Song. The song was also nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award in the categories of Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year.
With their second album, Writing's on the Wall, Destiny's Child still suffers from slightly uneven songwriting, but it's nevertheless an assured step forward for the girl group. Not only are they maturing as vocalists, they are fortunate to work with such skilled, talented producers as Kevin "Shekspere" Biggs, Rodney Jerkins, Dwayne Wiggins, Chad Elliot, Daryl Simmons, and Missy Elliott, who all give the quartet rich, varied music upon which to work their charm. So, even when the album fails to deliver memorable songs, it always ...
| | Karyn White CD (1988)
Foxy music CDs
$5.79 Photogenic session vocalist Karyn White scored a hit in 1987 by lending her vocals to the Jeff Lorber track "Facts of Love." Not long after, her self-titled solo debut propelled her to pop stardom, and was one of the first albums to solidify Babyface and L.A. Reid as top-notch songwriters. The album was lush, state-of-the-art pop R&B at its finest, and scored no less than three pop Top Ten hits for the burgeoning songbird. "The Way You Love Me" and "Secret Rendezvous," which were also big dance hits, were groove-heavy, melodic, and sophisticated, and their success was no doubt aided by White's striking good looks. However, the song that White will probably be best remembered for is the anthemic ballad "Superwoman," a song that touched a chord with working women everywhere, and, likes ...

| | Ben E King Soul Remix CD (2005)
Foxy songs
$13.15 Ben E. King released an unassuming and low-key album called What's Important to Me in 1992 on John E. Abbey's then Atlanta-based Ichiban Records. Competent and pleasant, maybe a tad over-produced, the album featured the love songs "You Got All of Me," "She's Gone Again," and the title track, "So Important to Me," as well as a misguided cover of the Impressions' "It's Alright." Nothing rose to the level of King's pair of 1961 classics "Stand by Me" or "Spanish Harlem," and there was a certain generic feel about the whole project, as if King were simply treading water. Ichiban ran into financial problems a couple of years later, and the label had folded by the end of the 1990s, only to reappear a few years later based in Florida, which leads us to Soul Remix, a complete re-thinking of the What's Important to Me project. Again released by Ichiban, with assistance from Ryko, Soul Remix is essentially the same album with a couple of tracks dropped and a couple of tracks added (including the addition of a totally unnecessary live version of "Stand by Me"), and everything has been remixed and refocused. The end result is an improvement over the original album, and while there still isn't really a track that delivers a knock-out punch, the whole set gives off a warm, easy glow that is easy to like, while the gentle remixes seem to give King's vocals an added resonance. "It's Alright," in particular, benefits ...
| | Luxxury Rock & Roll (Is Evil) CD (2006)
Foxy album
$10.15 San Francisco's Baron von Luxxury declares the dance/rock wars over with the release of his long-awaited full length debut, "Rock and Roll (is Evil)." The 12 song album employs 1980's influenced electro beats, synths, heroic guitars and sardonic lyrics to chronicle the rise and fall of legendary 70’s Sunset Strip groupie Sable Starr.Luxxury began in 2002 when Baron von Luxxury, inspired by LCD Soundsystem's call to arms "Losing my Edge", sold his guitar and bought a synthesizer. He then rerecorded his home-demo songs as 80's styled electro-pop, with disco beats and shimmering Giorgio Moroder-y synth replacing the guitar parts. While tongue-in-cheek at first, the resulting sonic makeover was undeniably infectious, and a new (old) future-retro sound was born. That first batch of bedroom demos was picked up by Chicago's Omega Point Records and had three sellout pressings as "The Drunk EP." Now, after three years comes Luxxury's full length debut. "Rock and Roll (is Evil)" was recorded and mixed in Berlin, Los Angeles, Brooklyn and San Francisco by resident singer/producer/tyrant von Luxxury. It features cover art by internationally renowned artist Jeremy Blake, who also created Beck’s “Sea Change” cover, the art in Paul Thomas Anderson's "Punch Drunk Love" and was the subject of a recent exhibition at the SF MOMA."Rock and Roll (is Evil)" kicks off with "Drunk" (as heard on Live 105, XFM and Virgin Radio London). “Dirty Girls Need Love Too” mixes two parts indie dance-rock a la The Faint with the future/retro glam of Ladytron and a splash of, dare we say, Frankie Goes to Hollywood. And the electro-rock hits keep coming, from radio favorites "Something Going On" (a cover of the classic by ABBA' s Frida) and "Sable Starr" (as heard on KROQ) to the newest single "Sweet and Vicious" the album evokes equal bits of New Order, The Cars and Daft Punk.Live, Luxxury is a unique hybrid of dance band and rock act, tight and rocking yet dangerously danceable. On their recent UK tour and several west coast tours Luxxury have opened for bands such as The Lovemakers, Scissors for Lefty, White Rose Movement, Scanners and 80's legends ABC, Live, von Luxxury plays guitar and sings, while Sha and Rico provide bass and drums respectively, while the synth and sequencing machines take care of themselves because they are terribly smart.Luxxury brings todays kids and tomorrow's adults the futuristic sounds of yesterday, but sexier, and properly groomed.Praise ...
