(7 Customer Reviews)
With its 1989 landmark album, 2 Live Crew practically single-handedly created the CD parental advisory seal and irreversibly changed the hip-hop landscape. Long before AS NASTY AS THEY WANNA BE, 2 Live Crew were drawing lawsuits and boycotts, and within the opening minute of "Me So Horny," the opening track and single, the group made it clear that, far from backing down, they were ready to push the envelope even further. Like FULL METAL JACKET, the Kubrick film from which it gets its name and central sample, the song is a massive frontal assault, a flurry of sexuality backed by an unforgettable beat. The song improbably broke into the US top 40, the album sold millions, record store clerks were arrested, an indecency case made it just shy of the Supreme Court, and a legend was born. As for the album itself, the record remains defiant, almost coyly playful and unapologetically offensive throughout--basically, the four men from Miami at the top of their game as the spirit of Rudy Rae Moore runs through tracks like "Put Her in the Buck" and "Dirty Nursery Rhymes." OFF THA CHAIN I've been listening to the 2 live crew since I was 8 yrs old. I was 11 when this one droped. I can remember when "Me so horny" was played over the radio. Parents had a fit. This album is very graphic. Even in 2005 I still have yet to here a album that is as explicit as this one. It is one of the best albums the 2 Live Crew has made. Out of the hole album there was probably only 4 songs I didn't care for. If you are a 80's fan like myself you must have this album. Also check out "Move Somthin, Banned in the USA, and As Nasty...II". These albums are also great. Submitted by Pditty (Bossier City, LA.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

As Nasty As They Wanna Be
$8.99 Too Short never had the skills or technique of LL Cool J or Big Daddy Kane, but what the Oakland rapper lacks in technique, he's always more than made up for with irresistible, '70s-inspired funk grooves that simply won't quit. When Short -- after enjoying a small cult following for a few years in Northern California -- joined a major label with Life Is...Too Short's predecessor, Born to Mack, too many East Coast MCs were inundating hip-hop with clichéd tracks consisting of only James Brown samples and a drum machine. Too Short, however, presented an attractive alternative with highly melodic, danceable tracks that made no secret of his love of '70s funk heroes like Parliament, the Ohio Players, and Cameo. This CD's X-rated, sexually explicit lyrics received their share of vehement criticism, and the MC responded ...

As Nasty As They Wanna Be
$12.69 The Trail Band is an 8-piece ensemble that creates an energetic blend of brass and string arrangements of traditional and original music featuring five great vocalists including Quarterflash's Rindy Ross. Hundreds of public and private appearances across America and Japan, plus seven successful albums have established The Trail Band as the premiere historic music ensemble from the Northwest. Cornet, tenor horn, tuba, fiddles, hammer dulcimer, guitars, penny whistle, mandolin, piano, saxophone, spoons, bones, drums, bass, and recorders combine with their rich vocal harmonies to create a diverse tapestry of sound inspired by 19th century music.Formed by Marv Ross in 1991 at the request of the Oregon Trail Council to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the trail, the band initially performed music exclusively from and about the era of the Oregon Trail with costumes, diary readings, traditional folk tunes, marches, hoedowns, and Native American melodies. Titled, Voices From The Oregon Trail, this performance piece has been the keystone of the band's repertoire for 10 years. In 1998 The Trail Band was presented the Meritorious Achievement Award by the Oregon-California Trails Association. In 1999 producer Marv Ross was presented an Alumni Award of Excellence from Western Oregon University for The Trail Band's contributions to history, education, and music. The Trail Band's two albums of Oregon Trail music have been licensed by Oregon State Tourism, The National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center, The End of the Trail Interpretive Center, Oregon Public Broadcasting, and countless school districts. In 1994 The Trail Band created a new show, Christmas With The Trail Band - a holiday concert reminiscent of the parlour orchestras and townsquare brass bands of the last century. Originally produced as a television special for Oregon Public Broadcasting, this concert has become an annual tradition for thousands of concert-goers in the Northwest. In ...
