| | Booty Essentials 2001 CD
While BOOTY ESSENTIALS 2001 lists a year in its title, this collection actually covers hip-hop from a wide swath of the 1990's and while it's heavy on the 2 Live Crew and related material (it is a Luke Records release, after all), there are some pleasant surprises on this compendium of house party bangers. Alongside pure classics of the genre such as "Tootsie Roll," "Daisy Dukes" and "It's Your Birthday," are non-booty-specific smashes such as Naughty By Nature's "O.P.P." and Tag Team's "Whoomp! There It Is," making for a more than respectable middle school rap collection, whatever one's tastes may be.
Includes bonus CD.

Booty Essentials 2001 album
$10.59 Black Eyed Peas, the hip-hop crossover juggernaut that propelled singer Fergie and producer Will.I.Am to superstardom, have, since 2003's ELEPHUNK, been audaciously plugging away at their bombastic but lighthearted style of rap-cum-dance pop--an effort that has translated to a run of successful chart-topping singles including "My Humps," "Pump It," and "Don't Phunk with My Heart." Eager to follow up on the platinum-selling success of 2005's MONKEY BUSINESS, Black Eyed Peas ...
| | Leona Lewis Echo CD (2009)
Booty Essentials 2001 CD music
$11.18 The goal of Leona Lewis' 2007 debut, Spirit, was to prove that an X Factor winner could be a phenomenon not just in the U.K., but in the rest of the world. The goal of her second album, 2009's Echo, is to prove that success was no fluke, to build upon "Bleeding Love" and turn Lewis into an actual diva. Certainly, Echo in any of its incarnations -- its song listings are tailored for individual markets, with the U.K. getting a cover of Oasis' "Stop Crying Your Heart Out," while the U.S. gets a second song co-written by Justin Timberlake -- uses the chilly, synthesized "Bleeding Love" as its foundation, creating a sheet of sound equal parts Euro-pop and modern American R&B. As opposed to the often-stuffy Spirit, this is proudly modern, and if the sounds emanating from the two sides of the Atlantic might seem to be aesthetically opposed, they're both producer-driven music constructed layer by layer from rhythm to the vocal, where the overall sound matters more than what's being sung. Which isn't to say that Lewis doesn't sing the hell out of the songs on Echo: she has an uncanny gift for hitting impossible notes without seeming as if she's grandstanding. In fact, there's nary an ounce of diva in Lewis, she seems to enjoy singing for the sake of it, which helps her out on an album like Echo, where the melodies are elliptical, not catchy, designed to showcase range, not ...

| | Patty Larkin Step Into The Light CD (1985)
Booty Essentials 2001 music CDs
$14.29 At some point in many a singer/songwriter's career, the performer realizes that he or she can no longer rely on easy-to-please, doe-eyed coffeehouse folkies, and in order to "make it" on a larger level, his or her writing will have to be streamlined for a more mainstream audience. In this respect, Step Into the Light reveals Patty Larkin in the midst of an intense artistic maturing process. Songs like "Caffeine" and "Dodge Dart" are the type of slightly witty (but not really very funny) attempts at comedy songs that probably brought the house down at the college campus but are better left to experts like ...

Booty Essentials 2001 music CDs
$7.99 A skilled songwriter and nimble pianist, and possessing an emotive, velvet voice that prefigured Nat King Cole and other such crooners, Ivory Joe Hunter was instrumental in bringing R&B to an uptown audience in the late '40s. He almost repeated the trick in the mid-'50s for the then-emerging rock & roll style (although it took uptown audiences a good long while to catch on) when he signed with Atlantic Records and released a series of rock & roll-leaning sides for the label between 1954 and 1957, including the majestic "Since I Met You Baby" in 1956. A year later, Hunter's "Empty Arms" neatly welded R&B and straight country ...
